Offers for the Centurion® Card from American Express are not available through this site. Some offers may have expired. Please see our card marketplace for available offers

Access to Lufthansa lounges has been one of the more unpredictable perks tied to The Platinum Card from American Express. After a series of extensions over the past few years, the benefit now has a firm end date of October 1, 2026.

Until then, eligible cardmembers can still access select Lufthansa lounges when flying on a Lufthansa Group airline. But if this has been part of your travel routine, it’s worth understanding how the benefit works and what’s going away soon.

How It Works

One of the many lounge access perks of the American Express Platinum Card® has been entry to select Lufthansa lounges when flying with Lufthansa Group airlines. While this benefit has been extended multiple times, it’s now scheduled to end on October 1, 2026.

Until then, cardmembers of American Express Platinum Card®, The Business Platinum Card® from American Express, and Centurion® Card from American Express can access select Lufthansa lounges worldwide when flying on a same-day Lufthansa Group boarding pass. The specific lounge you can enter depends on your card and class of service.

For Platinum Card® and Business Platinum Card cardmembers:

  • Flying economy: Access to the Business lounge
  • Flying business class: Access to the Senator lounge

What Is the Lufthansa Group?

The Lufthansa Group comprises several airlines:

  • Lufthansa — including subsidiaries Lufthansa City Airlines, Air Dolomiti, and Discover Airlines
  • SWISS — including subsidiary Edelweiss Air
  • Austrian Airlines
  • Brussels Airlines
  • Discover Airlines
  • Eurowings
  • ITA Airways

However, all of the documentation on this lounge access refers to “Lufthansa Group flight (Lufthansa, SWISS and Austrian airlines).” So, it's likely that you need to be flying one of the three listed airlines to get lounge access.

Participating Lufthansa Lounges

The access policy applies to multiple participating Lufthansa lounges. Airports with accessible Lufthansa lounges include:

  • Boston (BOS)
  • Berlin (BER)
  • Detroit (DTW)
  • Dubai (DXB)
  • Dusseldorf (DUS)
  • Frankfurt (FRA)
  • Hamburg (HAM)
  • Hannover (HAJ)
  • London (LHR)
  • Milan (MXP)
  • Munich (MUC)
  • Newark (EWR)
  • New York–Kennedy (JFK)
  • Paris (CDG)
  • Stuttgart (STR)
  • Washington–Dulles (IAD)

Guest Access Policy

Unfortunately, the generous access policy does not apply to guests. You're unable to bring a complimentary guest into the lounge, though Lufthansa does allow you to purchase access to several of its lounges. Prices vary by location and lounge, typically ranging from around $44 to $100-plus.

Our Take

Since the launch of this partnership, Lufthansa lounge access has always felt a bit uncertain. After the initial rollout, access was extended multiple times — sometimes for just a month at a time. That makes the Oct. 1 end date less surprising, even if it’s a loss for frequent Lufthansa flyers.

  • Bob Oetken says:

I notice that one of the airlines missing from the Lufthansa group is Condor Airlines (thinking that it was branch off of Lufthansa). I’m going to be flying from SFO to Frankfurt on Condor Business Class and then on to Porto on Lufthansa (unfortunately that leg is economy), and then returning via Lufthansa (bus. Class and onward back to SFO on Condor business class. I also have the Platinum card and wonder if I’ll be able to access the FRA lounge?

    • JT Genter says:

Thanks for flagging the list of airlines. We needed to update it to reflect the latest. Whether or not Condor is eligible is unclear. The terms state that travelers need to have a “boarding pass showing confirmed reservation on a Lufthansa Group flight (Lufthansa, SWISS and Austrian airlines).” That makes it seem like only those three airlines would be eligible. But it’s worth a shot. I’d love to hear your experience.

We have 2 amex platinum cards, however the Lufthansa business lounge will not allow our 1-guest to come in for a fee. Why ? There are no amex/Lufthansa lounges in Munich for a fee from 1-guest ?
    Thank you,
    Vladimir

A nice development – got to check out one of the lounges in FRA a few years back. Just wish we could travel to Europe easily again.

  • Victor says:

I really love my Amex cards, they are always a step beyond

  • m says:

With travel being where it is now, this offer is likely suited only for the very motivated business traveler. But if the guest passes were to be discounted for families traveling together…

  • Carlos says:

Awesome card and also great lounges. If you travel a lot, you should get it. There are a lot of lounges available worldwide.

  • Ryan says:

What if i am flying on code share United metal or fly in to Frankfurt on Lufthansa and out of Frankfurt on United? Will lounge access still be granted with my Amex platinum card?

    • Erik Paquet says:

Good question. Anyone know for sure? Seems that the T&C require a Lufthansa Group boarding pass. I wonder if having one of those airlines reprint your ticket (assuming the original one has United logo) on their own stock would do the trick.

  • Marcos says:

Thanks for the information. I´m about to book a flight to there

  • Matias Gomez says:

I don’t remember the lay out of the airport terminal, any one knows if this apply to any route (European or Domestic)? Or are these lounges only available for International routes?

  • Christopher Lin says:

Do authorized users also get free access?

  • Emily Davidson says:

I wish this extended to other Amex cards…

  • Elaine says:

no guests is a bummer though 🙁 how does this compare to Star Alliance Gold access? At least I hope i still have Star Gold via lifetime United Million Mile status… i haven’t kept up with the devaluation of benefits lately.
