Uber is a lot more than a rideshare service. What started as a way to get from point A to point B safely has turned into Uber Eats for dinner and groceries, Uber Health for non-emergency medical transportation, and now Uber Rent for car rentals.
Uber has just announced that Uber Rent is getting a major expansion — you'll now be able to rent a car by the hour thanks to the integration of Zipcar. This new partnership is great news for Uber One subscribers, as you'll get 10% Uber Cash back on all Uber Rent bookings, including with Zipcar.
Here's everything you should know.
Uber Rent Adds Zipcar Rentals, Expands Car Delivery Service
Uber is officially adding the car-sharing network Zipcar to Uber Rent. You can rent a Zipcar directly through the Uber app for everyday trips with just one hour's notice for anywhere from one hour to 14 days. To celebrate the integration, the first 1,500 Zipcar renters through Uber will receive an additional $20 in Uber Credits back.
If you're interested, open the Rent section and browse Zipcars available nearby. Once you’ve chosen a car, review the rental details, and it’ll prompt you to complete the required identity verification. You'll book and pay through the app, so you don’t need a separate Zipcar membership. You can then head to the car and unlock it using your phone, and your reservation can then begin. Gas is included in your payment.
At launch, this service is available in the following cities: Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, Milwaukee, New Jersey, New York City, Orlando, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Portland, Providence, Sacramento, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Tampa Bay, Washington, D.C.

Uber Rent also offers car rental delivery. If you don't want to pick up your rental, you can have it brought to you. When it's on the way, you'll receive a notification in the app. Once it arrives, you can inspect the car and give the driver the safety PIN. When you're finished with your rental, a driver will pick up the car. It's as easy as that.
Car rental delivery is already available in Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, New Jersey, New Orleans, New York City, Orlando, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Antonio, San Diego, San Francisco, Salt Lake City, St Louis, Tampa Bay, Washington, D.C.
Now, car rental delivery is also available in Nashville and Jacksonville.
Stack Rewards With Uber One
If you’re an Uber One member and you often rent vehicles, this new integration could help your rewards grow much faster, as you'll earn 10% Uber Cash back on all Uber Rent bookings, including Zipcar.
Uber One offers discounts on both Uber and Uber Eats orders, with the membership costing $9.99 per month or $96 per year. The program also includes:
- $0 delivery on Uber Eats food and grocery orders that meet a minimum threshold.
- 5% Uber Cash back in rewards on Uber rides.
- Up to 10% back on select delivery and pickup orders.
- Surge savings during popular times.
- 10% rewards on car rentals and now hotels booked through Uber.
- Member-only promos and special items.
Unfortunately, Uber announced a few days ago that eligible rides will soon earn 5% Uber One credits, down from 6%.
If you don't want to pay $96 to earn rewards on Zipcar rentals, several cards offer complimentary Uber One benefits. The American Express Platinum Card® offers up to $120 in statement credits for an auto-renewing Uber One membership, while American Express® Gold Card cardholders can enroll through Amex Offers and receive a one-time statement credit of up to $96 on an annual Uber One membership by October 30, 2026. Enrollment is required for select Amex benefits.

Bottom Line
The new Uber Rent integration with Zipcar is great news. Now, if you need a car for a couple of hours to run errands, get groceries, or to simply go for a drive, you can easily get a rental in the Uber app. And if you're an Uber One subscriber, you'll earn 10% back on your booking.
Hopefully, this service will roll out to more cities nationwide, especially in secondary markets where car rentals might be more expensive. If you're already in any of the eligible cities, try to be one of the first 1,500 Zipcar renters to earn $20 in Uber credits.
