The Shell Fuel Rewards program allows you to earn cents-per-gallon discounts on fuel (including EV charging) at participating Shell-branded stations nationwide. It's free to join, easy to use, and can add up to real savings at the pump.
As a bonus, throughout 2026, new members can save up to 30 cents per gallon on their first few fill-ups. With gas prices on the rise, savings seem to matter even more. Let's dig into the Shell Fuel Rewards program and see how it can help you save on your next fill-up.
What Is Shell Fuel Rewards?
Shell Fuel Rewards is a free loyalty program that helps you save money on fuel at participating Shell stations. Everyone who joins gets Silver status and immediately saves at least 3 cents per gallon on fill-ups of 10 gallons or more. To join, download the Shell app or sign up online. Once you're enrolled, use the app to locate nearby Shell stations and EV chargers, pay for fuel, and track your available rewards.
New members can enjoy an enrollment promotion to earn complimentary Gold status for an intro period depending on when you sign up. If you join between July 1 and September 30, 2026, you'll enjoy Gold status through December 31, 2026. If you join between October 1 and December 31, 2026, you'll enjoy Gold status through March 31, 2027. No matter when you join, you'll have your entire intro period to qualify for Gold or Platinum status for the following quarter.
In addition, new members can enjoy special savings on their first three fill-ups made within 60 days of signing up:
- Save 10 cents per gallon on your first fill-up
- Save 20 cents per gallon on your second fill-up
- Save 30 cents per gallon on your third fill-up
After that, savings will return to 5 cents per fill-up with the introductory Gold status. Unfortunately, these introductory discounts don't stack with the base Gold discount.

Shell Fuel Rewards Elite Status Levels
The Shell Fuel Rewards program has three status tiers. No matter your status, you'll only save on fill-ups between 10 and 20 gallons. Note that fill-ups with Shell V-Power Nitro+ Premium Gasoline count double, so you can reach elite status in half the time by using this brand.
Here are the tiers and how to earn them:
- Silver: Entry-level, save 3 cents per gallon
- Gold: Complete six fill-ups within three months and save 5 cents per gallon
- Platinum: Complete 12 fill-ups within three months and save 10 cents per gallon
The best part? These savings are stackable with other promotions in the program.
Stack Elite Savings With Everyday Purchases
Status discounts are nice, but the real value of Fuel Rewards comes from stacking additional offers. Here are some of the easiest ways to earn even bigger discounts:
- Online shopping: Link a credit or debit card to your Fuel Rewards program account and shop at participating merchants to earn additional savings — typically 5–10 cents per gallon for every $50 spent. Your card-linked offers stack with grocery store, dining, and travel offers as the Fuel Rewards program recognizes purchases made with your linked card at participating merchants. Several grocery chains also participate, including Giant, Stop & Shop, and Save Mart. Linking your loyalty accounts can earn up to an additional 10¢ per gallon.
- Dining: You're able to earn 10 cents off per gallon for every $50 you spend at participating restaurants. This is a great way to save on purchases you're already making.
- Car rentals: Earn 10 cents per gallon off when you make a reservation with Avis/Budget in the Fuel Rewards app. Keep in mind, there might be better savings on your next rental than this program, so it's always a good idea to price compare.
- Featured offers: From time to time, the Fuel Rewards program offers significant savings through a specific partner. For example, T-Mobile members save 10 cents per gallon by opening their T-Life or myMetro app each Tuesday and filling up by Friday at 11:59 ET. In 2026, members can even save 22 cents per gallon on NASCAR race days when Joey Logano is racing.
- Shop at Shell: The final way I earn savings is by keeping an eye on the Shell-specific offers in my Fuel Rewards mobile app. From time to time, there are deals too good to be true, like getting 5–10 cents per gallon in savings by buying a single snack or drink at a participating Shell station convenience store.
In general, all of these offers are stackable with your status gas discount. So, it's possible to maximize your 50-cent-per-gallon savings on your next fill-up. That's $10 off your tank when you maximize the 20-gallon limit!

Earn AAdvantage Miles and Loyalty Points on Fuel
One of the more interesting Fuel Rewards partners is American Airlines' AAdvantage program. You'll earn 250 AA miles after signing up for the program and completing a qualifying fill-up of at least five gallons during the promotional period. Then, you can choose to earn 3 AAdvantage miles and Loyalty Points per gallon (up to 20 gallons) instead of receiving Fuel Rewards discounts.
If you only fill up at Shell occasionally, earning airline miles may provide better value than a small fuel discount. But if you're a regular Shell customer, you'll likely come out ahead by stacking Fuel Rewards discounts and working toward higher status.

Bottom Line
Shell Fuel Rewards is free to join, takes only a few minutes to set up, and can deliver solid savings if you fill up at Shell. Between automatic status discounts, stackable partner offers, and seasonal promotions, it's one of the easier loyalty programs to get value from without changing your spending habits. Sign up today to earn instant Gold Status and 5 cents per gallon on every fill-up during the promotional period.

Is this a better deal than Costco?
Great info and way to save. Have to have the Shell Gas locally otherwise it doesn’t make much sense.
Been using this for awhile, and now that T-mobile Tuesdays offer 10c I try to always get gas now on the weekdays for the 15c max savings.
I’ve been using this program and like it. T-Mobile users have been recently giving an extra 10c/gallon as a Tuesday thank you code.
Very good tip! I didn´t know about the instant gold status!
Can you go back to Gold Status if lose it 6 month into the program? What would you need to do.
74/5000
This status is valid for anyone registered with an address outside the US?
US-based only sorry.
Shell and Chase partnered to offer all chase freedom card members instant fuel reward gold status until the end of 2019. This offer is good for new and current members, all you have to do is to activate the offer in their promo page.
Maybe not a bad program. However, the Shell stations in my area are ALWAYS $0.20-$0.30 cents higher than the average at the other gas stations so that 0.05 cent savings doesn’t help when filling up there… The other service stations also use Toptierfuel so that quality is identical between stations.
I like this. This will be awesome on trips. Does my husband have to have his own or is he better off logging into an account I set up?
I combine this with the gas buddy app to see if there are actual savings as sometimes Shell stations are much more expensive. FYI, the ALT ID option if you don’t carry the car is typically the phone number registered to your account.
Downloaded the app, pulled into a station, app said it couldn’t find a station nearby. Still needed gas, but for now I’m not a believer.
Don’t forget, you can always enter your ALT ID at the pump to activate your savings.
I always see this option at the pump but didn’t know much about it till now. Thanks for the great review.
I love using my FR card. Thanks!
Some credit cards are better but this is pretty nice since you really just go about your day normally!
Thanks for sharing! Lots of Shells nearby.
If we had Shell stations in our area, it might be a great idea. Oh well ?
Does the program apply to shell Canada as well?
seems simple enough.
thanks!
This is great! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks OP! Will help me keep in budget!
Sounds like a pretty good program, ill have to check it out.
I think it is important to remember the opportunity cost. Sure, you can use the Fuel Rewards shopping portal, but then you are forgoing other rewards programs you could use instead.
I still think Costco Gas is a better deal.
A nickel here a nickel there, eventually it all adds up
I prefer to use my Kroger fuel points! But thanks for the info.
like the lifetime savings tracker
I keep forgetting to use it.
AAA membership also gives you 5 cents bonus.
Is the AAA discount in addtn to the .05 Fuel Rewards discount or as a separate program? Thanks
T-mobile Tuesday has 10cents/gallon off at Shell quite often.
sucks that IHG quit the partnership, I was getting 6cents off with Spire membership
I registered for the program and got instant Gold status! Thanks for the useful tip!
Too bad we don’t have a Shell in my city!
Ooh, now this is useful. Thanks for posting!
I use diesel and it seems Shell is always so much more then any other station, i wish I could get on board with this…
Thanks. Signed up, now to use the program.
So in order to keep Gold status, do you have to do 6 fill ups for EACH of the 4th, 5th, 6th month requirement, or over the period of those 3 months?
over the period of those three months
Any tip that easily saves me $$ is a great tip
Thanks for sharing this useful information. I guess the savings can and do add up.
I am going to have to reconsider this program. I do have a Shell station near my house and I have a credit card that I am going to use exclusively for gasoline. As long as it would cause Shell to be cheaper than my alternate options, it would be worthwhile.
sounds a bit complicated, will have to see if spouse wants to jump thru all of those hoops
I’m going to check this program out.
Good article. Thanks for the information.
Good move by Shell who I felt have always been previously generally shrewd on the incentives.
Have to see if Shell stations are around me, then maybe I’ll hook up with the program.
Looks great. Thanks for sharing.
Great analysis. I have seen this program a few places before but I wasn’t really sure how it worked or if it was valuable or worth it. This helps one understand it better. If prices are not higher than alternative gas stations than this sounds like something worth participating in. Thank you.
Wait. So this is only for discounts on Shell gasoline? Shell is very pricey to begin with in my area.
instant gold status, interesting.
Glad to see Shell up their game!
Is there a program that will do cash back instead of a gas price reduction for gas stations (something like dosh)?
Looks easy to use. Thanks for sharing.
I linked my Fuel Rewards account to my Chase Pay app – Shell is a CP retailer. That way I don’t need another physical card to pay either Shell or Chase. When Chase offers Ultimate Rewards bonuses by using Chase Pay, I then earn .05+ along with URs & already have the respective bonus cc in my CP wallet for easy access.
good program to get some savings
So I’m a bit confused. I got an email a while back saying that this program had been discontinued, but my card continue to work. Did they stop it or plan to stop it and then change their mind just curious.
Ive never seen anything about Fuel Rewards stopping – it’s here to stay.
It’s a good program but I wish it was available across more stations other than Shell. There just aren’t many Shell stations in our area. Does anyone know of any other similar programs through other gas stations?
Thanks for the tips Richard! I always forget about the additional ways to earn Fuel Rewards other than gas. Great reminder!
I didn’t realize the savings could be this big.
I should really stop procrastinating and start using this program.
Wish there was a Shell station near me.
Always looking for ways to save on fuel
… especially when the overall living expenses are just getting higher than ever.
