45 Small Luxury Hotels of the World Properties Rejoined World of Hyatt via Mr & Mrs Smith

Over the past calendar year, there's been a lot of change by way of which hotel brands are partnering with what luxury chain. In the case of World of Hyatt, it ended its partnership with Small Luxury Hotels of the World and acquired the luxury booking platform Mr & Mrs Smith. Hyatt has since made hundreds of Smith properties available through its website, and that's where things get interesting.

Roughly 80 properties under the Mr & Mrs Smith umbrella also belong to Small Luxury Hotels of the World. Here's what you need to know about these dual-collection properties, including where they are, what they cost, and which benefits you can expect on stays.

45 SLH Properties Rejoined World of Hyatt via Mr & Mrs Smith

For those who appreciated Hyatt's partnership with Small Luxury Hotels of the World, you'll be happy to know that some SLH properties are still bookable through Hyatt—albeit a smaller number than before the partnership ended and with a different branding. 45 such properties are bookable once again, and that's because they belong to two collections: SLH and Mr & Mrs Smith.

And because you can book these dual-collection properties through Hyatt channels, you can expect to earn and burn points on stays and enjoy your elite benefits should you hold status.

Which properties rejoined?

The list of joint Smith–SLH properties is small compared to the number of hotels that comprise both collections. Wondering where in the world these properties are located? Here's the list of dual-collection properties bookable through World of Hyatt:

It's worth noting that this list could grow. In fact, 17 such SLH properties were expected to rejoin World of Hyatt through Mr & Mrs Smith and aren't currently available on Hyatt's website. Most of the not-yet-available-but-could-be-later-on properties are located in Spain and Thailand, with a few more dotted across the world map.

What benefits can you expect at dual-collection properties?

On paid nights at dual-collection properties, you can expect to earn base points and bonus points. You'll also earn tier-qualifying nights, which count toward earning status and accruing Milestone Rewards.

Not much is changing in that department, thankfully. We know as much given the communication Hyatt is sending to members with future bookings at SLH properties rejoining the program through Mr & Mrs Smith.

Unfortunately, it's still unclear what benefits World of Hyatt elites can enjoy. Some joint collection properties feature complimentary breakfast as a standard offering, negating the Globalist breakfast perk. Room upgrades present another question mark, sadly.

That said, stays at these 45 properties are still eligible for point-earning through the Hyatt–American Airlines dual accrual partnership. So, at the very least, dual elites can expect to earn AA miles should you link your AAdvantage^® account to World of Hyatt.

What does a free night cost?

When Hyatt introduced Smith Hotels to its booking channels, it didn't apply its standard award chart. Instead, Hyatt prices nights dynamically here. You'll get anywhere from 1.13¢ to 2.92¢ (give or take a bit on the margins) per point of value on stays.

In other words, if the cash rate is high, expect to redeem several thousand points. Before the partnership swap, SLH hotels fell into one of Hyatt's award categories. That's not the case anymore. Yes, we're disappointed about this, too.

For example, let's look at Rothay Manor, located in Ambleside, United Kingdom. On a one-night stay in August, you can book a classic room for 250 GBP (~$317 USD) or redeem 22,500 World of Hyatt points for the same room. Rothay Manor used to be a Category 6 — bookable for as little as 21,000 points per night.

Per the calculator, your points are worth 1.40¢ apiece on this reservation. That's well below what AwardWallet users average on Hyatt redemptions at 2.19¢ apiece.

Select markets offer more value than others. For instance, properties in Thailand routinely offer compelling value given comparatively lower cash rates. Thus, your Hyatt points will generally go further there than in the U.K. It's worth checking the calculator before you book to ensure you get fair value from your points.

Final Thoughts

World of Hyatt's partnership with Mr & Mrs Smith initially gave us a fair bit to get excited about. However, the rollout left a bit to be desired — especially considering how awards are priced nowadays.

But a silver lining is that 45 properties formerly belonging to World of Hyatt through Small Luxury Hotels of the World are back in the fold via Mr & Mrs Smith. While these hotels won't fall into a category like before, you can still book them through Hyatt channels, earn and burn points on stays, and enjoy elite benefits once you check-in.
