What is MileUp?
MileUp is a simple application that tracks your driving; for every mile you drive you earn points, and the points can be converted into gift cards at popular retailers like iTunes, Walmart, and Amazon.
How Does It Work?
When you signup for the app, you earn 25 bonus points. After that, as your drive around the app tracks your driving, and for every mile driven you earn points which are added to your MileUp account. You can then exchange every 1,000 points for retail gift cards worth $5.
There are also several bonuses that you can pick up, like the fact that if your drive more than 400 miles per week you are eligible for a bonus. If you are unfortunate enough to be involved in a crash, you can submit an accident report through the application, and you will pick up 50,000 points bonus worth up to $250. Another possible bonus is a 100 points bonus for referring friends to the app. Finally, during your daily use of the app, you will find challenges and other Easter eggs in which you can participate to pick up even more points.
Why Oh Why?
By now you are probably wondering what is the catch, and what does the app do with all the data it collects, and more importantly why it is doing it? MileUp is owned by Agero, a company that hopes to be able to make our roads safer and reduce road traffic deaths. Each year they gather and analyze data on 10 million+ car accidents and roadside assistance incidents.
The company aims to improve crash detection technology to enable faster response times to accidents, as well as making driving safer by analyzing driving patterns and habits.
Overall
If you do any amount of driving, why not give this a shot? Even for those of us who only drive a few thousand miles per year, it is an excellent opportunity to pick up some free points and rewards.
