Update: Since this change in July 2017, Amex changed the minimum transfer amount for point transfers to British Airways Avios to 1,000 Membership Rewards points. See our full guide to Amex transfer partners for the latest details.

American Express has increased the transfer ratio of British Airways and Iberia Avios from 5:4 to 1:1 which is an improvement of 20%. Transfers were dropped from 1:1 to 5:4 in 2015 but are now back at that 1:1 ratio.

Overall

This is great news and the fact that it is permanent means you can take your time and plan the best strategy for you. You do not have to rush and make a speculative transfer just to take advantage of the improved ratio.
