In early September 2024, AwardWallet was the first to report that American Airlines was pricing Fiji Airways awards dynamically. At the time, American Airlines representatives told us that the airline was “testing award availability,” and award prices shortly returned to normal. But, as of today, American Airlines has officially launched its dynamic award pricing on Fiji Airways.

This move comes in advance of Fiji Airways adopting the American Airlines AAdvantage® program. The small Fijian carrier doesn't currently have its own bona fide frequent flyer program, and it's joining Oneworld as a full-fledged member next year. So, adopting the AAdvantage program makes sense.

Here's what we know so far about this change.

American Airlines Is Now Pricing Fiji Airways Awards Dynamically

Savvy travelers know one of the best aspects of the American Airlines AAdvantage program is its partner pricing. AA-operated awards are priced dynamically, whereas partner award rates are set at published rates. That means you'll know exactly what you'll pay for a partner-operated flight, provided you can find award availability.

Unfortunately, that price stability is no longer the case for Fiji Airways awards booked using AAdvantage miles. Instead of the published award rate of 80,000 miles for Fiji Airways business class, we are now finding awards costing up to 405,000 AAdvantage miles for a business class flight between Los Angeles (LAX) and Nadi, Fiji (NAN):

This new pricing structure patterns how American Airlines prices its own flights. Some days, award prices reflect the award chart, and on other days, the award chart is more of a suggestion. That's the case with Fiji Airways right now.

How much are Fiji Airways awards now?

In the calendar view below, you can see the wide fluctuation in one-way business class pricing between Los Angeles and Nadi, Fiji — a route on which Fiji Airways is the only AAdvantage partner operating flights — from 80,000 up to 405,000 miles in June 2025:

Thankfully, you can still find Fiji Airways award flights priced as low as the award chart says they should be:

Unfortunately, that low pricing is surrounded by awards up to three times as expensive in economy and five times more expensive in business class.

For now, this pricing structure is limited to awards on Fiji Airways. Presently, no other partners are subject to these changes. That's why we think it has to do with Fiji Airways joining the AAdvantage program. While the full implementation isn't supposed to start next year, Fiji Airways awards have already adopted American Airlines AAdvantage dynamic pricing.

Final Thoughts

As of today, Fiji Airways awards are now dynamically priced using American Airlines AAdvantage miles. On some days, you can snag Fiji Airways awards based on published AAdvantage partner award chart pricing. On other dates, the pricing is… well, what we've come to expect from American Airlines, Delta, United, and other dynamically priced awards.

This new pricing scheme seems to be an early integration of Fiji Airways into the American Airlines AAdvantage program — which isn't to fully take place until 2025.
