With the busy holiday travel season approaching, Uber is introducing a set of updates designed to make airport transportation a little less chaotic. The company is expanding its Shuttle concept to a new airport, debuting its first booking kiosk, and reducing the number of taps required to tip your driver.

It’s a mix of small but meaningful improvements for regular travelers. Here’s a closer look at what’s changing.

Uber Shuttle Launches at Newark

One of the most convenient ways to get between New York's LaGuardia Airport (LGA) and John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) is by taking the Uber Shuttle. And the service is now available from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR).

Effective December 9, 2025, Uber riders can reserve a seat from EWR's Terminal B and C to Times Square (45th St and 8th Ave) or Grand Central Station (42nd St and Park Ave). At the time of writing, one-way fares cost $19.29 (per person) in the Uber app, which is a few times cheaper than an UberX.

If you aren't familiar with Uber Shuttle, it's a shared van service between LGA, JFK, and now EWR, and Manhattan. Shuttles depart frequently, and it's one of the quickest and cheapest ways to get into the city.

Many moons ago, I took an Uber Shuttle from LGA to Midtown Manhattan and thought it was fantastic. It's a good bit pricier now than it was then (R.I.P. $9 fares), but it's still far cheaper than taking an UberX, and quicker than taking the train. And it should be a popular way to get between EWR and the city, so be sure to book in advance if you can.

Request Rides In-Person with Uber Kiosk

But wait, there's more New York Uber news. At New York's LaGuardia Airport (LGA), Uber has plans to debut its first “Uber kiosk.”

The kiosk is designed to be a phone-free way to book an Uber. Instead of using the app, you'll use a conveniently located touchscreen to reserve and pay for your ride, and you'll get a paper receipt with all your trip details.

In the press release announcing it, Uber described the kiosk as “perfect for international visitors arriving without a local data plan or anyone who prefers an in-person experience.”

The first kiosk is coming to LGA's Terminal C, and Uber plans to roll out more at hotels, ports, and additional airports in the months ahead.

It's Now Easier to Tip Your Uber Driver

Last but not least, Uber rolled out an app update that makes it easier to tip your driver. The new feature is initially available for iPhone users as a Live Activity in the dynamic island. Tapping the “Tip my driver” button from your homescreen takes you straight to the tipping page.

In its press release about this change, Uber notes “early pilots showing that this simple change has increased tips for drivers.” Uber also shared a gif showing just how easy the process is.

In the months ahead, Uber will debut a similar feature for Android users. Until then, you'll still need to tap through a few extra screens to get there.

Bottom Line

Of all the Uber news, the easiest thing to get excited about is the new Uber Shuttle service between Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and both Times Square and Grand Central Station. It's a convenient and fast way to get between Point A and B. Hopefully the fares don't increase anytime soon, but if LaGuardia is any indicator, they probably will.

That said, rising fares usually mean healthy demand, so it's worth booking an Uber Shuttle early if you can. Uber lets you book shuttles a couple of days out, and reserving a seat ensures you're not stuck hailing a more expensive Uber ride or scrambling for another way into the city.

But on the bright side, if you end up taking an UberX instead of the shuttle, it's now even easier to tip your driver.
