Earlier this month American Express announced that Membership Rewards will add Aer Lingus as a transfer partner. No date has been announced for when this will happen, and Aer Lingus does not yet appear as a transfer partner on the Amex website.

Other Options To Aer Lingus

While the addition of another transfer partner to any flexible currency is always good news, this one is nothing to write home about, since you can already transfer Membership Rewards to Aer Lingus in a roundabout way.

Indeed, you can already transfer Membership Rewards points to Iberia and British Airways—both airlines and Aer Lingus being owned by the International Airline Group IAG, and all three sharing a points currency; “Avios”. This now allows you to transfer directly versus any round-about ways through Avios.com.

Our Take

The move will bring the total number of American Express airline transfer partners to 17. Hopefully, American Express will continue adding more airlines and other transfer partners. Ultimately, the more travel partners a points currency has, the more valuable it is.
