Offers for the The
In the past week, we've brought you breaking news that Alaska Airlines added two new long-haul routes, Bilt added its 26th transfer partner, and American Express simultaneously added Airbnb to Amex Travel and devalued the American Express Platinum Card® lodging credit.
Normally, our favorite airlines, hotels, and travel companies make a ton of different announcements throughout the week, which we compile into a weekly travel news roundup. However, with all the breaking news this week, other news has been relatively quiet.
We still have a few things to share, so let's dive in.
Airbnb Restricts Chores Before Checkout
Airbnb has added new “be reasonable” language to its terms and conditions, limiting what hosts are allowed to ask of guests:
“Be reasonable. For example, hosts are generally not allowed to:
- Ask guests to complete tasks that require significant effort or time, or would typically be performed by a cleaner, including stripping the bed, taking trash offsite, or washing and putting away dishes.
- Restrict access to any feature that’s advertised as part of the listing. Any fees for an advertised part of the listing must be included in the price shown to guests at the time of booking. Hosts may include information about fees for optional add-ons, like breakfast service, in their requests.
- Impose fines or other penalties on guests. AirCover provides protection for hosts in the rare event that their place or belongings are damaged by a guest during an Airbnb stay. If there is a risk a community association (such as an HOA or building security) or local government might impose a fine, hosts can provide notice to guests in the designated section of their listing.”
As someone who lives in Airbnbs 11 months of the year, I'm thrilled about this development. It applies to reservations on or after November 20, 2026. I'm generally a clean person, and I always clean more than is requested of me when I check out of an Airbnb. However, it's nice to know Airbnb hosts can't require a bunch of cleaning, especially since guests pay a cleaning fee at most Airbnb properties.
Delta Adds New Redemption Methods
Delta has added streaming services as a new way to use your
- One-year subscription to the Wall Street Journal from 25,000 SkyMiles
- One-year subscription to Paramount+ Premium from 15,000 SkyMiles
- Six-month or one-year subscription to FOX One: from 15,000 SkyMiles for a six-month subscription or 20,000 SkyMiles for a one-year subscription
- One-year subscription to the New York Times coming soon for eligible SkyMiles members
However, this will likely not be a great use of your miles. A one-year Paramount+ Premium subscription costs $140. Redeeming 15,000 SkyMiles means you're getting a value of less than a cent per point, which is a far cry from the 1.37¢ per point value that AwardWallet users typically get from SkyMiles.
The Wall Street Journal might be more lucrative, but it often runs sales, and you can use your digital entertainment credit on your American Express Platinum Card® to cover this membership instead.
