You might be familiar with Cathay Pacific's infamous flight award request form. It's the digital document you have to fill out to book Asia Miles awards on a handful of Cathay's partners — those that didn't show up in online award searches. American Airlines was one of the partner airlines that required this form. Those days are gone; you can now book American Airlines awards with Asia Miles online!

Here's everything you need to know.

You Can Now Book American Airlines Flights With Asia Miles Online

It's now easier to book American Airlines awards with Cathay Pacific Asia Miles, courtesy of the Hong Kong-based airline displaying AA's partner space online. This improvement means you (theoretically) won't need to fill out the flight award request form or call Asia Miles to reserve a seat.

Booking American Airlines awards with Asia Miles now takes a fraction of the time it used to. To book, log in to Asia Miles and navigate to the “Redeem flight award” webpage. And if partner space is available for the parameters you key in, you're golden. It's now that easy. Maybe.

In reality, “easy” depends on whether or not you stumble across a day where Cathay reflects partner availability. In a few mock searches, Asia Miles failed to pull up results when AA's other partners, such as Alaska Airlines or British Airways, showed partner space.

Hopefully, this will moderate over time, and the entirety of AA's partner space will become bookable online. Until then, you might want to keep the flight request form or Asia Miles' phone number in your back pocket — just in case you need to book an award you know is available but can't find online.

How To Earn Cathay Pacific Asia Miles

Another helpful aspect of Cathay Pacific's frequent flyer program is that you can earn miles in several ways. One of the main methods involves transferring points from partner programs, of which Asia Miles has many.

You can use Asia Miles to book short-haul American Airlines routes from 10,000 miles in economy and 20,000 in business/domestic first. In other words, keep Asia Miles in mind if you want to book AA awards with a partner currency.

Final Thoughts

You can now book American Airlines awards online with Cathay Pacific Asia Miles. While that's cause for celebration (no more flight award request form!), there's still slight room for improvement. Presently, Cathay Pacific isn't wholly reflecting AA partner space you'll find on other Oneworld programs. Bear this in mind before you book, as you may still have to fill out the form or call Asia Miles to reserve an award.
