Virgin Atlantic Flying Club joined SkyTeam on March 2, 2023, and it's now possible to book awards for SkyTeam partner ITA Airways using your Virgin points. Best of all, you can do this online. ITA Airways, for those unfamiliar, is an Italian airline and is the successor to now-defunct Alitalia.
Here's what you should know about using your Virgin Atlantic points for ITA Airways flights — and the wide-open availability we're seeing.
Virgin Atlantic Partner Award Chart for ITA Airways Flights
Virgin Atlantic Flying Club publishes separate award charts for many of its partners, and ITA Airways is no different. You can find the award chart here, which is reproduced below.

Booking Examples
We're seeing wide open award availability from the U.S. East Coast to ITA's hub in Rome (FCO) in early 2024, specifically January–March. Filtering for direct flights only between New York (JFK) and FCO, this is the availability and pricing calendar for a round-trip economy flight.
Availability in business class is even more robust.
You'll pay 150,000 points + $69 for a round-trip award in business class or 75,000 points + $5.60 for just the New York–Rome leg.
A round-trip economy award will set you back 60,000 points + $68.15.
It's nice that the “flexible dates” search option works well, and this could be even better if ITA flights are added to the Virgin Atlantic reward seat calendar.
Getting Virgin Atlantic Points
If you want to book ITA Airways flights with Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, you have several options to boost your Virgin Atlantic points balance. Flying Club has numerous transfer partners from bank and hotel points:
You also can earn Virgin Atlantic points on daily spending and welcome bonuses from the Virgin Atlantic® World Elite MasterCard®. In the U.S., this card is issued by Bank of America.
Bottom Line
We're big fans of new options for how to use your points and miles. It's even better when you can use them online, and that's now possible with Virgin Atlantic points for ITA Airways flights. Pricing isn't ground-breaking, but this presents additional options and might be better for intra-Europe flights than hopping across the pond.
