With Lufthansa rolling out its long-awaited Allegris business class in 2024, the new seats have quickly become a bucket list experience for many points and miles enthusiasts. They also offer a more comfortable way to fly to and from Germany on Star Alliance’s largest European carrier.

Here’s how to book Lufthansa Allegris using points, along with the routes currently offering it.

Which Aircraft Have Lufthansa Allegris?

Since debuting Allegris on May 1, 2024, Lufthansa’s rollout has been somewhat slow. As of publishing, only nine Airbus A350-900 aircraft are equipped with the new cabin. These planes carry the tail numbers:

  • D-AIXR
  • D-AIXS
  • D-AIXT
  • D-AIXU
  • D-AIXV
  • D-AIXW
  • D-AIXX
  • D-AIXY
  • D-AIXZ

Lufthansa expects a tenth A350-900 to be retrofitted in time for its winter schedule starting October 26, 2025, and also plans to bring Allegris to its Boeing 787-9 and 747-8 aircraft.

  • Chicago (ORD)
  • Newark (EWR)

For the winter 2025 season (beginning October 26th), Lufthansa will operate its Allegris product on the following A350 flights to and from Munich:

  • Bangalore (BLR) — thrice weekly
  • Cape Town (CPT)

Limitations for Booking Lufthansa Allegris Using Miles

There are a couple of things to keep in mind when redeeming miles for Lufthansa Allegris.

No advance first class availability to partners

While Lufthansa makes business class award seats available to partner programs like Air Canada Aeroplan and United MileagePlus well in advance, it only releases first class award space to partners about two days before departure. In the past, this window was closer to two weeks, but it has gradually shortened over the years.

If you want to book Lufthansa Allegris Suites with miles and avoid waiting until the last minute, your best option is to use Lufthansa’s own Miles & More program. It lets members book Allegris Suites nearly a year in advance, as soon as award space becomes available. However, Miles & More has its own quirks that make it different from other frequent flyer programs.

The program also recently moved to dynamic pricing. While the number of miles required can be quite reasonable, the taxes and fees tend to be on the steep side.

Accumulating Lufthansa's own miles is tough

While you can transfer credit card points to many of Lufthansa's travel partners, there is no major transfer partner to Lufthansa Miles & More. Lufthansa's former transfer option with Marriott Bonvoy points (at a 3:1 Marriott to Lufthansa ratio) was suspended in 2019, and it does not seem that there is a new transfer opportunity coming anytime soon.

The quickest way to accumulate Miles & More miles is to buy them or sign up for an ASmallWorld Prestige membership. You can also sign up for the Miles & More® World Elite Mastercard®. However, the card's current welcome offer is not enough for a first class Allegris suite ticket to and from the United States.

Welcome Bonus Earn 60,000 award miles if you spend $3,000 in purchases and pay the annual fee, both within the first 90 days.

While 60,000 miles is enough for some Allegris redemptions, Lufthansa's first and business class redemptions have heavy fuel surcharges that are several hundred dollars or more, which can negate the value of a mileage redemption.

Best Programs to Book Lufthansa Allegris Using Miles

We consider the “best” partner programs to have the following criteria:

  • Low fuel surcharges
  • The ability to transfer points from a major credit card partner

These are the following programs that meet these criteria:

Air Canada Aeroplan

With nearly all major credit cards having the ability to transfer points to it, as well as its solid pricing, Air Canada Aeroplan is the best option for redeeming miles to fly Lufthansa Allegris. Here's an example of an Allegris flight from Chicago (ORD) to Munich (MUC):

70,000 miles plus just $78 CAD is an excellent redemption. However, if you don't have 70,000 miles to spare for an Allegris flight, don't fret. Air Canada Aeroplan also has other payment options where you can pay fewer miles but more cash.

This page with the different pricing options does not appear in the initial results screen, but does appear when you click on the 70k price.

Avianca LifeMiles

Despite multiple devaluations over the last year, Avianca LifeMiles are still a solid option for flying Allegris with miles.

You will need 69,000 miles plus additional surcharges to fly in Allegris from Chicago (ORD) to Munich (MUC). While this is less than Air Canada, Avianca LifeMiles' poor customer service, plus their lack of ability to use more cash and fewer points to buy your ticket, places them below Air Canada.

That said, Avianca does have a healthy amount of transfer partners. This makes earning the miles pretty easy.

United MileagePlus

United MileagePlus charges the highest amount for the Chicago-Munich Allegris flight. However, their fees are significantly lower than Air Canada and Aeroplan.

In addition, United does not charge change fees, and its customer service is top-notch. If you need to cancel or reschedule your flight, or if your plans are flexible, United is your best resort. However, United's higher mileage cost places it at the bottom of the three programs.

That said, earning a lot of MileagePlus miles is possible quickly. United routinely offers sales on miles and has several transfer partners:

How to Find Allegris Availability

Seats.aero

Seats.aero has a table of Air Canada Aeroplan flights and United Airlines MileagePlus flights that can be used to quickly search for Allegris availability on a flight.

If you press the business column, you'll see the Allegris options first. Green prices that are operated by Lufthansa Airbus A350-900 aircraft on the Allegris route you search will most likely have Allegris. You can confirm this by pressing the information icon.

You can press the “Book via Air Canada Aeroplan” button to bring you directly to Air Canada's site to purchase your flight. While Seats.aero does not support Avianca searches at the time of writing, you can still use Seats.aero to find Allegris availability on Air Canada or United and then go directly to Avianca to book.

Bottom Line

Lufthansa has slowly been introducing Allegris across its fleet, and the complete retrofit will take years. However, there are still a few routes based out of Munich that have Allegris. We recommend using Air Canada Aeroplan, Avianca LifeMiles, or United MileagePlus to book flights on Lufthansa Allegris due to their transfer partners, solid redemption values, and low surcharges.

Make sure to confirm that your aircraft is an Airbus A350-900. Currently, only nine of these aircraft have the Allegris product at the time of writing,
