Capital One has begun publishing disclosures that the offer for unlimited 10X miles on eligible bookings through Hotels.com will expire on January 31, 2020. The benefit currently applies to the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card and the Capital One VentureOne Rewards Credit Card for bookings made at hotels.com/venture. This partnership was first announced in January 2018, with an initial term of two years. While we're disappointed that it hasn't been extended, we're holding out hope it might be replaced with something similar.
Editor's note: AwardWallet keeps a close eye on the benefits that come with popular rewards cards to help you maximize your travel savings. We published this article after seeing that the end date for the Capital One benefit had been published in multiple places where it didn’t appear previously.
In a recent post, Gary Leff pointed out that the promotion may be extended, (which we also mentioned at the bottom of this post). For the avoidance of doubt, Capital One has not made a formal announcement that the benefit is definitely ending. But they also have not confirmed an extension.

Key Terms
- Capital One is ending 10x points for Hotels.com bookings on 1/31/2020.
- New and existing Venture cardholders can continue to use the benefit until the deadline.
- You must make the booking through the Capital One Hotels.com portal.
- You must use the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card or Capital One VentureOne Rewards Credit Card cards to pay for your booking.
Our take
It's sad to see Capital One end 10x points on Hotels.com purchases. This has long been a customer favorite, especially when booking boutique and independent hotels that aren't a part of a loyalty program. However, it's good to see Capital One give adequate notice so cardholders can plan future hotel bookings and take advantage of the promotion.
One of our favorite features of this offer is that it stacks with Hotels.com Rewards. This program gives you a free hotel stay every after you make 10 paid bookings. The value of this free night is the average of your past 10 bookings, effectively giving you another 10% back on your Hotels.com bookings.
But don't lose hope yet. In the past, we've seen popular promotions be extended past their original expiry date. For example, British Airways extended its 10% AARP discount last year. Hopefully, Hotels.com and Capital One will work something out before January. If not, this change would eliminate one of our favorite benefits for the Venture cards, so Capital One would be wise to come up with a good replacement.

It did indeed expire. There’s now a Capital One Travel option that pays 5% …. but you don’t get free nights after 10 nights, for example. So it’s gone from being 20% back (10x miles plus a free night every 10 nights) to 5%. So the better deal is to keep booking with Hotels, take your free nights and the 2% from Capital One for a net of 12%.
I’m sorry to hear that this program is ending considering I’m a sales rep and it’s been great for travel. Will I have to redeem points by the program end date?
I have taken advantage of this perk for the past 2 years . Between the 10x miles and the free nights I have accumulated enough miles for an Orlando to Austrailia round trip and 7 free hotels nights. I am sorry to see this end. Without this I would have probably used Booking.com or Agoda rather than Hotels.com. I really hope they extend this otherwise I really do not need to exclusively use hotels.com.
I hope they come out with something better. I like booking directly to get my elite perks so never used this.
Glad to see trends like this happening with different great benefits. Capital One is really showing it wants to be a contender so let’s see what they come up with next.
Although it’s sad to see a bonus like this go, I never used it. One I don’t have the credit card and two I don’t prefer Hotels.com.
I know that hotel loyalty helps getting upgrades and such at a hotel. With the issues that crop up redeeming points with the hotels and sometimes not getting elite benefits when you should, is it still worth it to build hotel points and strive for elite status?
That’s disappointing — I really hope they extend it or find another similar promotion to take its place.
Yes, very sad indeed.
The promotion was amazing, not sure how sustainable it was.
Great way to supercharge your earnings
Sad to see this.
I am going to miss this 10x. Luckily, we still have time to utilize this perk before expiration.
Well it was good while it lasted
oh well…. it was good while it lasted
Devaluations are a fact of this game. It was nice while it lasted I hope that they come up with another deal for hotels.
It is the eternal quest for rewards.
Disappointing, no doubt. But, yes, at least they gave 10 months notice. I’m actually surprised by that much time. And, that much time also allows for either rethinking the decision, as you mention, or for planning an equally compelling alternative.
Looking forward to what they replace this with
Thanks for the heads up! I was already considering applying, so I’d better hurry to take advantage, just in case.
That’s unfortunate. I used this benefit a lot. It was my main use of the venture card.
I’m sad to hear this! Hopefully they have good replacement.
This provides liquidity and ability to make the most of my daily expenditure. Good offer
No real reason to get this card now.
TRIPLE stacking could be possible for another 10 months, such as: Hotels.com program + Capital One + Giving Assistant
All good things come to an end…. it was good whilst it lasted
This is sad to hear. I’ve benefited a lot using my Venture card with hotels.com with non-chain hotels.
If they added booking.com or the like to replace it, I’d have to consider an application.
i hope they renew this offer as this would definitely be attractive to hotel “free-agents” .
Sad to hear. This was a good option for small private boutique places through hotels.com
Excellent offer. I read the details. Pencils out for me
Please consider revising the headline on the Blog splash page:
The Capital One Venture card has long offered 10x points on Hotels.com purchases. Unfortunately, the promotion is set to end on January 31, 2019.
Thanks.
Thanks for pointing that out, updated.
Good that they provided notice before pulling the offer.
Glad they gave some notice, maybe it will be replaced with another awesome option.
Any ideas about what might replace it?
Are we thinking this was “costing” CapOne too much in terms of rewards and therefore not renewed, or just a temporary partnership running its course?
Hard to say. If they don’t renew or replace it then, yes, it cost too much.
Why are you reporting the contract is expiring? You say in the first paragraph the initial contract was for 2 years but there is no link anywhere that says either Cap One or Hotels.com has decided they arent going to renew the contract.
I wasn’t aware of this great little perk!! I guess I should hit this a few times before it disappears!! Thanks!
This was a great feature of these cards. Hopefully they replace it with something equally as good.
Wow this is a big blow.
