Better-Known Capital One Venture X Benefits

First, let's look at benefits you may already be aware of. The Capital One Venture X comes with a welcome bonus of 75,000 miles when you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. It has an annual fee of $395, which can be easily offset by the card's many benefits — as long as you take advantage of them.

These benefits include perks like:

  • Up to $300 annual travel credit. Cardmembers can use this credit in the Capital One Travel portal to get up to $300 off flights, hotels, rental cars, and more. This credit resets every card anniversary (not calendar year).
  • 10,000-mile anniversary bonus. AwardWallet users redeem Capital One miles at 2.04¢ on average. At that rate, the bonus miles are worth about $204. At the very least, you can redeem Capital One miles at 1 cent per mile for travel purchases. That makes these bonus miles worth at least $100.
  • Access to Capital One Lounges and Landings. There are currently five Capital One Lounges — Dallas-Fort Worth Airport (DFW), Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD), Denver International Airport (DEN), Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas (LAS), and New York-Kennedy (JFK) — and two Capital One Landings — New York-LaGuardia (LGA) and Washington National (DCA) — with more under construction.
  • Priority Pass™ Select membership. Enroll in a membership that provides the cardholder with unlimited access to over 1,500 airport lounges.
  • Up to $120 Global Entry or TSA PreCheck application fee credit. Get a statement credit once every four years for either of these services when you use your card to pay the application fee.
  • Bonus earnings in the travel portal. Earn 10X miles on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel, 5X miles on flights and vacation rentals booked through Capital One Travel, and 2X miles on other eligible purchases.
  • Add up to four authorized users at no cost. Previously, these additional cardholders had lounge access benefits. However, as of February 1, 2026, that no longer applies unless you pay a $125 fee. Authorized users don't get all of the above perks, but they do have access to other benefits.

Protection for your personal items

When you use your Capital One Venture X to pay your monthly cellphone bill, you'll automatically be covered if your phone is damaged or stolen. You can receive up to $800 per approved claim with a maximum of two claims in a 12-month period. You will just need to pay a $50 deductible. Coverage goes into effect the first day of the month following payment of a cellphone bill with your card, and it applies to all phones listed on the bill.

In addition to the cellphone coverage, the Capital One Venture X provides purchase security. It covers up to $10,000 per claim and up to $50,000 per cardmember if items purchased within the past 90 days are stolen or damaged.

Another coverage that can protect items bought with your card is extended warranty protection. This adds an additional year to manufacturers' warranties of three years or less. It has a maximum benefit of $10,000 per claim (or the cost of the item paid for with your card) and $50,000 per account.

Finally, the Capital One Venture X also offers return protection. If you buy an eligible item with your card and the merchant won’t accept a return within 90 days, you'll be reimbursed up to $300 per item and up to $1,000 per year.

Trip protections

The Capital One Venture X includes several travel protections that can help when a trip doesn't go as planned. When you pay for eligible travel with your card, you'll receive trip cancellation and interruption coverage, trip delay reimbursement, lost luggage reimbursement, and travel accident insurance.

These benefits can help cover certain prepaid, nonrefundable expenses, unexpected costs during covered delays, or eligible losses if your baggage is lost by a common carrier. As always, coverage limits, exclusions, and requirements apply, so review your card's benefits guide before relying on these protections.

Primary rental car coverage

Last but not least, the Capital One Venture X offers primary rental collision coverage. For this to be in effect, you need to pay for your entire rental with your card and decline the rental company's collision damage waiver. Your coverage includes physical damage to the vehicle, theft of the vehicle, loss-of-use charges from the rental company, and towing. It covers up to the car's actual cash value, up to $75,000.

With this coverage, you should note three important things:

  1. Only your rental car is covered. If you are in an at-fault accident, then the other car (or any people you injure) will not be covered.
  2. The coverage excludes rentals in Ireland, Northern Ireland, Israel, and Jamaica.
  3. Certain vehicle types (like antiques or cars costing over $75,000) are excluded.

Be sure to consult your benefits guide (caution: PDF link) before renting to ensure you understand how this policy works.

Bottom Line

The Capital One Venture X comes with many well-known benefits. However, you can also access a slew of lesser-known benefits that are worth knowing about to ensure you get maximum value from your card. These benefits can save you money on your next trip, open up hard-to-book experiences, and protect your prized possessions. If you don't think you can leverage enough of this card's benefits to warrant paying the annual fee, you may get better value from one of the other options in the Venture Card family.

Isn’t there also a special museum membership for card holders? And also membership in a program named Prior.

    • JT Genter says:

The Capital One Venture X used to offer a complimentary 6-month Enthusiast membership to The Cultivist. However, that benefit was modified as of June 22, 2024 to now offer 50% off a 1-year membership ($220 instead of $440).

And indeed Capital One Venture X cardholders receive a complimentary annual PRIOR magazine membership. But we weren’t sure that was appealing enough to include in this roundup.

How does the cell phone insurance thing work when I’m currently paying my phone monthly on my bill?

  • Patty says:

This is the problem I have been having “First, only your rental car is covered. If you are in an at-fault accident, then the other car (or any people you injure) will not be covered.”. My personal insurance doesn’t cover liability outside of North America. When we have rented cars we couldn’t get liability only insurance through the rental companies. Would you please consider writing up a post for how people can find the liability coverage in situations like this so that we can actually use the credit card coverage?

    • Ryan Smith says:

Hi Patty, can you tell me more? What rental companies have refused to sell you only liability coverage? I’ve not personally experienced this but want to know more.
