Offers for the Savor Rewards from Capital One, Wells Fargo Propel American Express® card and Wells Fargo Attune℠ Card are not available through this site. Some offers may have expired. Please see our card marketplace for available offers

The Savor Rewards from Capital One was launched in 2017 as a $95 annual fee card with great rewards for categories cardmembers spend money on, including 3% back on dining and groceries. The bank enhanced the Capital One Savor card's benefits in 2021, adding bonus categories for streaming and entertainment and increasing the rewards for dining and groceries to an industry-leading 4%.

Unfortunately, Capital One has now closed the card to new applications, leaving a gap for potential cardholders who were looking for a simplistic card that rewards on food and entertainment categories. Let's dig into what options are still available from Capital One and the competition.

What Happens To Current Capital One Savor Cardholders?

While Capital One has closed the card to new applicants, current cardholders of the Capital One Savor can continue to hold the product for the foreseeable future. The future may see a forced product change for those cardholders — similar to what happened to me when my Wells Fargo Propel American Express® card (closed to new applicants) was switched to the Wells Fargo Active Cash® Card (Rates & Fees) last year.

In the meantime, Capital One Savor cardholders will continue to earn rewards as they have been: 4% cash back on dining, entertainment, and popular streaming services; 3% at grocery stores; and 1% on all other purchases.

Best Capital One Savor Card Alternatives

While no cards quite match the Capital One Savor‘s balance of earning rates and reasonable annual fee (perhaps the reason the card was pulled), customers have solid alternatives that mirror Capital One Savor‘s cashback categories for a low fee.

Entertainment

For those looking to maximize rewards on entertainment, the Capital One Savor Card's sibling Capital One Savor Cash Rewards Credit Card offers 3% cash back on all entertainment. Even better, you'll earn 8% cash back on purchases made via the Capital One Entertainment ticketing platform. Best of all, this card charges $0 annual fee, meaning you can rack up cash back without a fee eating into your earnings.

Dining

For the best credit cards for dining, the top no-annual-fee option is the Capital One Savor Cash as it offers 3% cash back for dining out.

But if you want to really supercharge your earnings, the American Express® Gold Card is a top option: Earn 4X points at restaurants worldwide (on up to $50,000 per year, then 1X).

For a Goldilocks balance of annual fees and earning rates, consider the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, which offers 3X points on dining at restaurants worldwide for a $95 annual fee.

Steaming entertainment

Finally, for those looking to maximize streaming rewards, consider Amex Platinum — which offers a Digital Entertainment Credit of up to $20 per month for popular services like Disney+, Hulu, Peacock, and ESPN+.

For direct rewards on streaming spend, the Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express once again enters the chat as it earns 6% cash back on select U.S. streaming subscriptions.

Bottom Line

While it's a bummer that the Capital One Savor is closed to new applicants, there are plenty of alternatives to replace the Savor Card's spending categories. Overall, the best choice would be to select Capital One Savor Cash, given its $0 annual fee and solid earning rates.

However, big dining and streaming entertainment spenders shouldn't overlook the Blue Cash Preferred‘s 6% cash back on select U.S. streaming subscriptions, plus 6% at U.S. supermarkets on up to $6,000 per year in purchases (then 1%). Alternatively, if you can utilize the card's monthly credits, the Amex Gold becomes a no-brainer with 4X points at at restaurants worldwide (on up to $50,000 per year, then 1X), 4X at U.S. supermarkets (on up to $25,000 per year, then 1X), 3X points on flights booked directly with airlines or on AmexTravel.com, and 2X points on prepaid hotels and other eligible purchases booked on AmexTravel.com.

Whatever your choice, make sure that any annual fees you might pay to access high rewards for spending in these categories make sense, as there are great alternatives in this post that don't require an annual fee each year.
