On June 15, Chase launched a promotion offering a 20% bonus when you transfer Ultimate Rewards points to Air Canada Aeroplan. If you still want to take advantage of this transfer bonus, you only have a couple more days. This potentially lucrative offer is only valid for transfers through July 31, 2023.
This is just the second time we have seen a transfer bonus from Chase to Aeroplan since Chase added Aeroplan as a transfer bonus in August 2021.
Chase Transfer Bonus to Aeroplan Key Terms
- Receive a 20% transfer bonus when you transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards point to Aeroplan points.
- The promotion is valid for transfers through July 31, 2023, 11:59 p.m. EST.
- There is no limit on the number of times you can transfer points to Aeroplan with the promotion.
Remember that you need to have a Chase Ultimate Rewards card that charges an annual fee to transfer Ultimate Rewards points to airline and hotel partners. These include the following cards:
- Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card
- Chase Sapphire Reserve®
- Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card
- Ink Plus® Business Credit Card
- J.P. Morgan Reserve card
Stack Aeroplan Transfer Bonuses
One thing to keep in mind is that Chase Aeroplan® Credit Card holders can currently receive a 10% transfer bonus through December 31, 2023. You must make a minimum transfer of 50,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points to trigger the bonus. You can earn a maximum of 25,000 points through this 10% bonus.
This new 20% transfer bonus stacks with the existing promotion. This means that if you are a Chase Aeroplan Card holder, you can receive a 30% transfer bonus. For example, say you transfer exactly 50,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points to Aeroplan. This new transfer bonus will add 10,000 Aeroplan points and the cardholder bonus will tack on another 5,000 Aeroplan points for a total of 65,000 Aeroplan points.
A 30% bonus that can be leveraged with some of Aeroplan’s excellent sweet spots can make this deal extremely lucrative and hard to beat.
Making the Most of Your Aeroplan Points
You have a huge range of options to use your Aeroplan points. The program has a generous award chart. You can leverage your points for excellent value by taking advantage of some of its best sweet spots.
North America to Europe
A one-way award on Singapore's fifth freedom route from New York to Frankfurt will set you back 35,000 points plus CAD$47 ($34) in taxes and fees.
That means you only need to transfer 30k Ultimate Rewards points to Aeroplan during this bonus. However, if you are an Aeroplan Card holder with the added bonus, then this would be an even better value at 54k Chase Ultimate Rewards points round-trip (since you need to transfer 50k Chase points to get the additional 10% bonus).
If you want to fly in a premium cabin, some excellent sweet spots are also available. Flights under 4,000 miles in business class will set you back 60,000 points plus taxes and fees.
The 4,000 miles range covers many city pairings from Newark and JFK to many European destinations. These include London, Dublin, Paris, Frankfurt, and Zurich, to name a few.
Transferring points through the standard promotion rate requires 50k Ultimate Rewards points. Or pay even less if you're able to take advantage of the additional 10% bonus for Aeroplan cardholders.
Flights Within South America
After a recent Aeroplan award chart change, flights within South America now start at 10,000 points for one-way awards in economy. You can head from Bogota, Colombia, to Buenos Aires, Argentina, for 20,000 points plus taxes and fees. Also, you even have a couple of routing choices. You can fly direct or have a 20-hour layover to explore Quito for no additional points cost.
Using this Aeroplan transfer bonus, you'd only need to transfer 17k Chase Ultimate Rewards points. That's an excellent return on your points for a 6-hour flight.
Head to Hawaii for 12,500 points
One-way trips from the U.S. West Coast to Hawaii start from 12,500 points in economy plus taxes and fees, and a round trip will set you back 25,000 points.
This can be an even better value with the transfer bonus, with round-trip awards setting you back 21k Chase points. If you're a cardholder and transfer enough points to trigger the additional bonus, then it would only cost 20k Ultimate Rewards points round-trip.
Ultra-long-haul From the Pacific to Europe
There is some value to be found on ultra-long haul economy awards as well. Flights over 7,000 miles from the Pacific zone (including Australia) to the Atlantic zone (Europe) start from 60,000 points plus taxes and fees. A one-way economy award on Air Canada partner Etihad from Sydney to London costs 65,000 points plus taxes and fees.
You'd only need to transfer 55k Chase points to Aeroplan during the bonus promotion — plus pay taxes and fees.
Maximize your stopovers
Due to the way Air Canada divides the world up, there is some great value to be had with a stopover. Consider that the Atlantic zone is enormous. The zone stretches from the United Kingdom to India and from Finland to South Africa.
Traveling from Atlanta to Dubai with a 2-day stopover in Frankfurt will set you back 60,000 points plus taxes and fees. This is excellent value and substantially cheaper than booking both awards separately.
Opting to transfer points using the promotion, the stopover award would set you back 50k Chase points plus taxes and fees.
Aeroplan Points Expiration Policy
Aeroplan points expire if the Aeroplan member hasn't redeemed or accumulated points in 18 months. This being said, Air Canada has suspended all expiration of points through September 30, 2024. Aeroplan members don't have to worry about their points expiring until then.
Thankfully, you can help save your expiring points by transferring from an Aeroplan bank partner. That means taking advantage of this Chase Ultimate Rewards transfer bonus to Aeroplan will extend your points by another 18 months from the date of transfer.
If your Aeroplan points have already expired, there are ways that you can reinstate your points. For example, if it's been within six months of your account becoming inactive, you can reinstate your points by opening an Aeroplan credit card or taking an Air Canada flight. Both of these options are free of charge. Even if it has passed the six-month mark, you can reinstate your points for 1 cent per mile and a $30 administrative fee. To do this, call the Aeroplan Contact Center at 1-800-361-5373.
Boosting Your Aeroplan Points Balance
Building up your Aeroplan points balance is relatively straightforward. The airline is one of the few North American carriers that is a partner with virtually every major flexible points currency. As a result, you can boost your points balance by transferring any of the following points:
- American Express Membership Rewards transfer to Aeroplan at a 1:1 ratio.
- Chase Ultimate Rewards points transfer to Aeroplan at a 1:1 ratio.
- Capital One Miles transfer to Aeroplan at a 1:1 ratio.
- Marriott Bonvoy points transfer to Aeroplan at a 3:1 ratio.
- Bilt Rewards points transfer to Aeroplan at a 1:1 ratio.
This new Chase transfer bonus is one in a string of recent Aeroplan transfer bonuses. For instance, the recent 30% transfer bonus to Virgin Atlantic.
In addition, you can also earn Aeroplan points for various everyday spending using the Aeroplan® Credit Card. The card earns you a generous 3X spending with Air Canada as well as grocery stores and dining, including takeout and delivery. The Aeroplan Card carries a reasonable $95 annual fee.
- Earn up to 100,000 bonus points
- Earn 75,000 points after you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months your account is open.
- Plus, 25,000 points after you spend $20,000 on purchases in the first 12 months.
- $95 Annual Fee
- Redeem points for both international and domestic flights with the Aeroplan® Credit Card.
- Fly to another continent and travel the world with the Aeroplan® Credit Card.
- Earn 3X points for each dollar spent at grocery stores, on dining at restaurants, and Air Canada directly. Earn 1X point for each dollar spent on all other purchases.
- 500 bonus points for every $2,000 you spend in a calendar month - up to 1,500 points per month.
- Member FDIC
- 3x points on dining, including takeout and eligible delivery services
- 3x points at grocery stores
- 3x points directly with Air Canada
- 1x point on all other purchases
This promotion can be very lucrative, especially if you can stack it with the additional 10% transfer bonus that co-brand cardholders receive. Fortunately, the offer runs through the end of July, so you have plenty of time to plan and ensure the promotion works for you.
Getting the maximum bonus and marrying it to a great Aeroplan sweet spot can end up yielding excellent value. Needless to say, we never recommend transferring credit card points speculatively! No matter how good the deal. So, if you can't make this transfer work with your plans, you are best leaving your Ultimate Rewards points alone.
