Earn 100,000 Points With the Chase Sapphire Preferred

The best part of getting a new credit card is the welcome bonus, and the Sapphire Preferred‘s elevated offer is certainly a head-turner.

New applicants can earn 100,000 bonus points after you spend $5,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening.

Chase is marketing this as a limited-time offer, and the bank has confirmed to AwardWallet that it's ending soon.

What is this Sapphire Preferred welcome offer worth?

The value of the Sapphire Preferred welcome bonus depends on how you choose to redeem your new stash of Ultimate Rewards points. But no matter how you use them, this bonus can be incredibly valuable.

To maximize its value, one of the best strategies is transferring your points to Chase's 14 travel partners. On average, AwardWallet users redeem Ultimate Rewards points this way for 2.02¢ apiece, making this bonus worth more than $2,000 toward award travel.

And Chase has some excellent transfer partners, including United MileagePlus, Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, and World of Hyatt. Just note that for new applicants, transfers to Hyatt are now made at a 4:3 ratio instead of the previous 1:1 ratio.

If you’d rather avoid the hassle of transferring points and searching for award space, you can redeem points earned with the Sapphire Preferred through Chase Travel℠ at up to 1.75¢ per point through the Chase Points Boost feature. At that rate, this welcome bonus could be worth as much as $1,750 in travel booked through Chase.

Cardholders can also combine Ultimate Rewards points earned across their entire portfolio of Chase cards into a single account. That makes it easy to maximize card earnings and accumulate enough points toward your next redemption.

Why Should You Get the Sapphire Preferred?

Welcome bonus aside, the Sapphire Preferred is an incredibly well-rounded travel rewards card — and became even more compelling when Chase added a handful of new benefits without increasing the annual fee.

All that to say, it's a card we recommend to beginners and seasoned travelers alike. Here are just a few reasons why.

Lucrative earning rates

It's easy to stock up on Ultimate Rewards points thanks to the Sapphire Preferred‘s many bonus categories. With this card, you'll earn points as follows:

  • 5X points on Lyft rides through September 2027
  • 5X points on travel purchased through Chase Travel℠
  • 3X points on dining at restaurants worldwide
  • 3X points on gas and EV charging
  • 3X points on vacation homes at top brands like Airbnb, Vrbo and more
  • 3X points on eligible streaming services
  • 3X points on online grocery purchases (excluding Target, Walmart, and wholesale clubs)
  • 2X points on all other travel
  • 1X point per dollar spent on all other purchases

Several useful benefits

The Sapphire Preferred has a lengthy list of practical benefits, including:

  • $100 annual hotel credit.
  • Receive one statement credit of up to $120 every four years as reimbursement for a Global Entry or TSA PreCheck® or NEXUS application fee charged to your card.
  • Get a year of complimentary Apple TV when activated by December 31, 2026.
  • Complimentary DashPass from DoorDash.
  • Primary collision damage waiver (CDW) insurance on car rentals worldwide.
  • Trip delay reimbursement of up to $500 per ticket for delays of 12+ hours.
  • Trip cancellation and interruption insurance up to $20k per covered trip.
  • Lost luggage reimbursement and baggage delay coverage.
  • Extended warranty and purchase protection.
  • No foreign transaction fees.

Reasonable annual fee

The Sapphire Preferred offers cardholders a lot of value — and you'll get it all for just a $95 annual fee.

Who’s Eligible for This Sapphire Preferred Welcome Bonus?

Chase enforces multiple restrictions on rewards credit card applications. The first is a published application rule stating you can’t get the Sapphire Preferred if you currently hold the card or have received a welcome bonus for it in the past:

“This credit card is unavailable to you if you currently have one open. The new cardmember bonus may not be available to you if you previously held this card or received a new cardmember bonus for this card. We may also consider the number of cards you have opened and closed in determining your bonus eligibility.”

Keep in mind that you can still get this increased sign-up bonus if you're currently an authorized user on another Sapphire Preferred account.

Not sure if you qualify? Chase should now pop up a window letting you know that you aren't eligible for the bonus when you go to submit an application. If you get this message, you'll get the chance to cancel your application before you get a ding on your credit report.

Chase cards are also subject to a second, unpublished rule known as the Chase 5/24 policy. If you’ve been approved for five or more personal credit cards in the previous 24 months (from any card issuer), you likely won’t be approved for this card.

Our Take

Our favorite travel card is currently offering its best-ever welcome bonus of 100,000 points. But all good things must come to an end, and Chase has confirmed this limited-time offer is ending soon.

This Sapphire Preferred offer doesn't come around often, and with Chase advertising it as a limited-time offer, it's one you won't want to miss while it's on the table.

Tip of The Day
Did you know that you have a personal referral link in your AwardWallet profile? If you invite people to AwardWallet using your referral link, you will receive an AwardWallet upgrade coupon for every five members you invite. Also, if these users upgrade to AwardWallet Plus, we will credit your AwardWallet account with AwardWallet Bonus points, which can be redeemed for points and miles in your program of choice. We spend roughly 50% of the revenue we receive from those referrals to purchase those miles for you. All of this can be tracked via the Invite to AwardWallet widget in the left navigation bar on your Accounts page.

Does anyone know if this is 100,000 miles -or- 5 20,000 mile certificates? I fell for this trick before …
    thank you,

  • Dmitriy says:

I have Sapphire Reserve and my wife is an authorized user on it. Can she apply for Sapphire Preferred and receive full bonus? If so, can she make me an authorized user so that we can potentially combine points from both cards?

  • rkt10 says:

If you make a referral, the bonus comes up at the 60,000 points for $4000. Gotta call Chase to get it straightened out.

  • KEITH says:

I have 2 biz preferred. no personal sapphire’s. do the biz card DQ me?

  • Renee says:

I had the Saphire Preferred from Aug 2021 to Aug 2023. For the 48 months, do I have to wait until after Aug 2025 to qualify for the bonuses, or is it from when you open, or when you get the points? I imagine I received the points between Nov-Dec 2021.

    Thanks!

    • JT Genter says:

It’s based on when you earned the bonus. So it seems you’re locked out until later this year 🙁
“The product is not available to either (i) current cardmembers of any Sapphire credit card, or (ii) previous cardmembers of any Sapphire credit card who received a new cardmember bonus within the last 48 months.”

  • Chris says:

If I have a chase sapphire reserve but am over the large annual fee. Can I cancel and apply for the preferred and earn the new bonus. Last time I received a bonus for a sapphire card was when I applied for the reserve almost 9 years ago

    • JT Genter says:

Yes! But we would recommend downgrading your CSR to a no-annual-fee card like a Chase Freedom Unlimited or Freedom Flex. That way you maintain your credit history with that card and boost your earning potential. Then, after waiting a couple of weeks for Chase’s records to be updated for sure, apply for the new CSP.

That’s the exact process I did back in 2021 the last time the CSP offered a 100k offer — and what we plan to do this month with my wife’s Sapphire Card 🙂

      • rkt10 says:

My husband’s in that 2021 situation too. He applied on July 30, 2021 but didn’t get his SUB till 10/22/2021. My guess is that this 100,000 point offer might be long gone by the end of October 2025. Hope not, but not holding my breath.

  • Kevin says:

Any idea how long this offer will be available? Does chase usually have a standard length of time their limited time offers last? Do we usually get a reasonable amount of heads up time before the offer closes?

  • Steve says:

The bonus comes after spending $5000 in 3 months, not 4000.

  • Pete says:

Correction needed: minimum spend is $5,000
