Citi just launched a new transfer bonus, and it's one that we haven't seen in almost five years. Now through July 22, 2023, you can transfer Citi ThankYou points to Cathay Asia Miles and receive a 15% transfer bonus.
This new transfer bonus makes Asia Miles sweet spots even sweeter. For example, you can fly business class to Africa or Asia from 54k Citi points, or fly Cathay Pacific business class as far as you possibly can for 74k Citi points.
Let's show you how you can take advantage of this new Citi ThankYou points transfer bonus to Asia Miles.

Best Ways to Redeem Cathay Asia Miles
AwardWallet has an entire article dedicated to the best uses of Asia Miles, but let's review some of the top options
Fly from the U.S. West Coast to Asia for 54k Citi points
Cathay Pacific only charges 61,000 Asia Miles for partner business class flights up to 5,000 miles in distance. That's just enough distance to cover Japan Airlines' flight from Seattle (SEA) to Tokyo Narita (NRT):
Factoring in the 15% transfer bonus and the requirement to transfer points in increments of 1,000 points, you'll need to transfer 54k Citi ThankYou points to get enough Asia Miles to book this one-way fight.
Fly to Africa from 54k Citi points
You can also take advantage of Asia Miles' 5,000-mile distance band to fly to Africa. As long as you keep the total distance under 5,000 miles, you'll pay 27,000 Asia Miles in economy or 61,000 Asia Miles in business class. The pricing is the same whether you fly Royal Air Maroc through Casablanca or another Oneworld airline like British Airways or Iberia.
You'll need to transfer 24k Citi points to book an economy award or 54k Citi points for business class. Those are excellent rates, especially to fly to a region that's typically priced much higher in region-based award programs.
Fly as far as you can in Cathay Pacific business class for 74k Citi points
Asia Miles' award chart for Cathay Pacific is unique in that the “ultra-long” distance band starts at just 7,501 miles. Any trips over that distance cost the same — whether it's booking a nonstop from New York to Hong Kong or continuing onward all the way to South Africa!
During this Citi transfer bonus, you'll only need to transfer 74,000 ThankYou points to get enough Asia Miles to fly as far as you want in Cathay Pacific business class.
Other Cathay Asia Miles Earning Options
Need more Asia Miles than what your Citi ThankYou points can provide? Thankfully you have plenty of other transfer options. You can transfer points to Asia Miles from the following programs:
- American Express Membership Rewards (1:1 transfer ratio)
- Capital One Miles (1:1 transfer ratio)
- Bilt Rewards (1:1 transfer ratio)
- Brex Rewards (3:2 transfer ratio)
- Marriott Bonvoy (3:1 transfer ratio, with a 5,000-mile bonus for transferring at least 60,000 points)
- plus several other hotel programs at not-as-tempting transfer ratios
Plus, U.S. travelers can earn Asia Miles directly through the Cathay Pacific Visa Signature® card. Cardholders earn 2x on all eligible Cathay Pacific travel and in-flight purchases, 1.5x on all dining in the US or abroad, and 1.5x on purchases outside of the US.
Citi ThankYou to Asia Miles Transfer Bonus History
Asia Miles will periodically offer transfer bonuses to entice members to transfer points into the program. However, we have only seen one transfer bonus offered by Citi ThankYou points for transfers to Asia Miles:
That means this is the first transfer bonus of its kind in almost five years. And 15% transfer bonus seems to be the best transfer bonus on offer.
