Delta Business Platinum Amex Benefits

The Delta Business Platinum Amex has plenty of benefits that are valuable for both business and personal travel on Delta, including travel protections. These are the benefits available with the card:

Early boarding

Receive Zone 5 priority boarding on Delta flights as a cardholder. Up to eight companions on the same reservation can also take advantage of the priority boarding.

Annual $120 Resy credit

Resy is a platform that offers exclusive access to select restaurants. The Delta Business Platinum Amex offers an annual credit of up to $120 ($10 per month) on eligible Resy purchases. Enrollment is required.

Up to $200 Delta Stays statement credit

Delta Business Platinum Amex cardmembers can get a $200 statement credit for eligible prepaid Delta Stays bookings made on delta.com. When you book a Delta Stays or Delta Vacation, you'll earn 1 Medallion Qualification Dollar (MQD) per $1 spent on your vacation package.

MQD head start

Each year, you'll get a 2,500 MQD head start toward status for each type of Delta Platinum or Reserve-level card you hold. This, combined with the 1 MQD earned for each $20 in purchases on the card, gets you closer to Delta SkyMiles elite status.

Annual $120 rideshare credit

Earn up to $10 per month, up to $120 per year, back in statement credits on U.S. rideshare purchases. Enrollment is required. This benefit was added, along with others, during a refresh of Delta cards in early 2024.

Companion Certificate

Delta Business Platinum Amex cardmembers get an annual companion certificate. Each year after renewing your card, you’ll receive a companion certificate good for a Main Cabin round-trip flight within the U.S., as well as to Mexico, the Caribbean, or Central America.

The certificate allows a companion to travel with you by covering the base fare. Government-imposed taxes and fees are still required, but this benefit can offer significant value for travelers looking to bring along a travel partner.

TakeOff 15 savings on award travel

TakeOff 15 is a perk on nearly all Delta Amex cards — both personal and business. The discount saves cardmembers 15% on award bookings made with Delta SkyMiles on delta.com or the Fly Delta app. The discount is automatically reflected when searching for award flights, as long as you're traveling on Delta-operated flights.

Free first checked bag

Delta Business Platinum Amex cardmembers get their first checked bag free when flying on Delta Air Lines or its subsidiaries. This benefit is only available to the primary cardholder (not authorized users) and anyone on the same reservation, up to a maximum of eight travel companions.

Complimentary upgrades

One of the more recent perks added to the card’s list of benefits is access to the complimentary upgrade list. Delta Business Platinum Amex cardmembers with an eligible ticket will be added to this list after Delta SkyMiles Medallion Members and Reserve cardholders.

Basic economy fares are not eligible for upgrades, however.

Hertz Five Star Status

Get automatic Hertz Five Star Status after adding your Hertz Gold Plus Rewards account number to your SkyMiles account associated with your Delta Business Platinum Amex. With Hertz Five Star Status, you'll enjoy elevated rewards and access to a wider range of vehicles every time you rent. This level of status usually requires 10 rentals or $2,000 in spending with Hertz to achieve.

Fee credit for Global Entry or TSA Precheck

A common yet useful benefit, the Delta Business Platinum Amex gives cardmembers up to a $120 statement credit for a Global Entry or TSA PreCheck application — once every 4.5 years for TSA PreCheck or four years for Global Entry.

You must use your card to pay for the application to receive the statement credit. Keep in mind that you can also use these credits to pay for someone else's PreCheck or Global Entry if you've already paid for your own with another card's credit.

Travel protections

The Delta Business Platinum Amex comes with three types of travel protections:

  • Trip delay insurance is available when your round-trip travel is delayed for a covered reason for more than 12 hours. Certain expenses qualify for reimbursement up to $300 per trip with a maximum of two claims per card in 12 months. You must pay for the entire trip with your card to be covered.
  • Baggage insurance will provide up to $1,250 for carry-on baggage and up to $500 for checked baggage if your bag is lost, damaged, or stolen while traveling on a common carrier vehicle (such as a plane, train, ship, or bus). This is in addition to coverage provided by the carrier.
  • Car rental loss and damage insurance lets you decline coverage from the car rental agency. With the Delta Business Platinum Amex, you're covered for damage to or theft of a rental car in a covered territory, but this is secondary coverage, and you need to pay with this card for coverage to be in effect.

Redeeming Miles With the Delta Business Platinum Amex

Delta SkyMiles earned with the Delta Business Platinum Amex are deposited directly into your SkyMiles account. From there, you have a few options for redeeming your miles.

Redeem your miles for award flights

Delta often requires a lot of miles for an award flight. In fact, it's usually a better idea to redeem partner miles, such as Virgin Atlantic Flying Club points, for Delta flights than to redeem SkyMiles for the same flights.

Delta doesn't have a published award chart anymore, but we've compiled an “unofficial” chart that you can reference here. And there are still some Delta award sweet spots to be found when redeeming SkyMiles, however, like on flights to the Caribbean and Central and South America.

You can also redeem SkyMiles for seat upgrades, to pay for premium drinks onboard, ticket change fees, and more.

Book a Delta Vacations package

Delta Vacations allows you to bundle your Delta flights with a hotel and/or rental car. The great thing about a vacation package from Delta is that you can redeem SkyMiles to pay for your trip. You can also earn SkyMiles toward Medallion Status from these bookings.

SkyMiles Experiences

You can even use SkyMiles to bid on experiences, such as private shopping, music festivals, and dining experiences. And finally, you can redeem SkyMiles for magazine subscriptions, though that's not the best use of your airline miles.

Application Restrictions

Amex is notorious for “lifetime” language in its terms and conditions. This means you are eligible to receive the welcome offer bonus on each different American Express credit card only once in your lifetime. Because of this, you'll want to be sure that you're getting the best possible bonus when you apply for an Amex card.

Additionally, Amex instituted a newer rule that currently only pertains to personal Delta Amex cards. This new language says that, depending on the card you are applying for, you may not be eligible to receive the bonus if you've had other Delta Amex credit cards in the past, thanks to so-called “card family restrictions.” Thankfully, this doesn't apply to Delta Amex business credit cards.

Amex also has rules for how often you can apply for its cards, and you can only hold five Amex credit cards at any time.

Cards That Compete With the Delta Business Platinum Amex

Not sure if the Delta Business Platinum Amex is right for you? Here are some other options to consider:

  • If you want even more Delta perks, the Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Business American Express Card has them. You'll get access to Delta Sky Club lounges (15 visits per year; unlimited access after spending $75,000 on your card in a calendar year), higher placement on the Complimentary Upgrade List, and a companion certificate eligible for first class, Delta Comfort+, and Main Cabin seats on domestic, Caribbean, and Central American flights each year after you renew your card. This is Delta's most premium business card, which you can learn about in our full Business Delta Reserve review.
  • If you want a Delta card with a lower annual fee, look into the Delta SkyMiles® Gold Business American Express Card. You'll still get a free checked bag, priority boarding, and the TakeOff 15 benefit, but you won't be able to spend your way to elite status, won't get the MQD boost, and won't get a Companion Certificate. Our Delta Gold Business Amex review has more details.
  • If you want points you can use with Delta and other award programs, consider the American Express® Business Gold Card. You'll earn 4X points on your first $150,000 of annual spending on your top two eligible categories each month, and you can redeem your Amex Membership Rewards points with 21 airline and hotel partners, including Delta, Air Canada, Virgin Atlantic, Hilton, and more. You won't enjoy any Delta-specific perks with this card, but you may be able to earn Delta SkyMiles at a higher rate by spending on this card instead. Bottom Line

The Delta Business Platinum Amex is a valuable mid-tier business card for Delta loyalists. It's not the best option for those who truly value a premium travel experience, but it can get you to status if you use the card often enough, and the card has perks for business owners who regularly fly Delta. For those looking for more perks than what an entry-level card offers but a lower fee than what a premium card levies, this might provide the happy medium you're looking for.
