Finnair is the flag carrier of Finland. Founded in 1923, it is the fifth oldest continuously operating carrier. From its base at Helsinki airport, the company serves a wide range of international and domestic destinations. Finnair joined the Oneworld airline alliance in 1999.
The Finnair Plus program is the airline loyalty program. Finnair became the fifth program to adopt Avios as its currency, doing so in early 2024. Like most other Avios programs, Finnair Plus Avios has a unique expiration policy. Hers is all you need to know about when Finnair Avios expire.
Do Finnair Avios Expire?
Finnair Plus Avios will expire if you have not earned or redeemed Avios for 18 months. Per the Finnair Plus FAQs page:
“Your Avios are valid for 18 months from the latest Avios activity date. All available Avios will expire at the end of the 18th consecutive month for which you have not collected or used Avios.”
Finnair has a quirk where the first day of the month counts as the first of the 18-month period:
“If Avios are collected or used on the first day of the month, the month in question is counted as the first of the 18 months. For any other day, the 18-month period will be counted from the start of the next month.“
That means:
- Avios earned on January 1, 2025, will expire on June 30, 2026.
- Avios earned on January 2, 2025, will expire on July 31, 2026.
