Just under a year ago, Oneworld announced that Fiji Airways would become the alliance's 14th full-fledged member. As of March 31, 2025, the island nation's flag carrier has officially joined one of the world's most valuable airline alliances.
Here’s what Fiji Airways joining Oneworld means — and how it could impact your future travels with the airline and its now-formal partners.
Fiji Airways Has Joined the Oneworld Alliance
Fiji Airways is the flag carrier of its namesake country and became a Oneworld Connect partner five years ago. In fact, it's the only airline that's had that moniker. During these past five years, Fiji Airways formed partnerships with nearly all Oneworld members — some closer than others.
But as of March 31, 2025, Fiji Airways upgraded to a full-fledged Oneworld member. That’s a big deal, especially if you have elite status with the airline since you’ll now receive an equivalent Oneworld status tier — which means additional perks when flying with other member airlines.

What makes Fiji Airways unique is that it uses the American Airlines AAdvantage® frequent flyer program, which it adopted in mid-2024. In other words, your Oneworld status is tied directly to your AAdvantage elite status:
- AAdvantage Executive Platinum® = Oneworld Emerald
- AAdvantage Platinum Pro® = Oneworld Emerald
- AAdvantage Platinum® = Oneworld Sapphire
- AAdvantage Gold® = Oneworld Ruby
Your specific benefits when flying with other Oneworld airlines — or if you're an elite with another airline flying Fiji Airways — will vary by tier but generally include priority check-in and boarding, lounge access, extra baggage allowance, and more.

Which Oneworld airlines let you redeem miles for Fiji Airways flights?
Generally speaking, one of the best things that comes out of an airline joining an alliance is that you can redeem partner miles for flights on that airline. However, many Oneworld airlines have long allowed you to redeem miles for Fiji Airways flights.
As it stands, you can use Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan miles, British Airways Avios, Qantas Frequent Flyer points, and more for Fiji Airways flights.
And while you can also redeem AAdvantage miles, you’ll have to deal with dynamic pricing — a consequence of the airline adopting AAdvantage as its frequent flyer program.
Bottom Line
The Oneworld alliance is now a little bit bigger — which is a big deal if you're a Fiji Airways elite member flying on another member airline, or an elite member flying on Fiji Airways.
In the future, travelers can also look forward to Oman Air joining the Oneworld alliance. While the original timeline targeted the end of 2024, the latest estimate points to a full integration in late June of this year.
