Avianca Airlines is teaming up with its South American counterpart out of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil — GOL Airlines — to allow LifeMiles members access to GOL's executive lounges. GOL is a low-cost airline that flies to many destinations throughout South America and to three points in North America at a reasonable price.

If you're passing through São Paulo or Rio de Janeiro, certain LifeMiles members can enjoy the benefits of GOL Smiles Lounges. But where are these lounges and how do you get access? Let's take a look at some of the details.

Who Has Access?

Avianca LifeMiles Diamond and Gold Elite members will have access to GOL's Smiles Lounges located in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro's international airports. Gold and Diamond members will receive a specific number of entries to the GOL Smiles Lounges according to their elite status. Gold members receive a maximum of five entries while Diamond members will be allotted 10 visits.

It's worth noting that you can use one of your allotted visits to bring in a companion, and children under 18 still count toward your limited number of visits.

Elite members and their companions are only permitted entry if they share the same reservation on the same day with either Avianca or GOL. All members must show their virtual Diamond or Gold membership card and boarding pass at the lounge's check-in desk.

Bottom Line

This is a nice little touch for LifeMiles Diamond and Gold Elite members who might be passing through one of Brazil's two largest airports. It's unlikely you'll use all 5 or 10 of the passes you're allotted according to your status, unless you fly in and out of Brazil frequently. But having the option is nice in case of a long layover or delay.
