Radisson Rewards is the successor to the previous Club Carlson program and exists in two entities: Radisson Rewards and Radisson Rewards Americas. The latter serves the Americas: North, Central, and South America. The former serves the rest of the world. The programs are very similar other than that. Let’s take a deep dive into the Radisson Rewards programs to understand what they offer to you.

Background Information

Radisson Hotel Group — which owns the Radisson Rewards program — is a collection of more than 1,500 hotels around the world. In fact, Radisson hotels are present in more than 70 countries. Locations include the U.S., Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.

Radisson split the programs into Radisson Rewards and Radisson Rewards Americas in June 2021. You can have accounts in both programs and can transfer points between the two for free. Unfortunately, Radisson slipped in devaluations with the program changes, with 62% of hotels now requiring more points after the split.

Lastly, Radisson Rewards previously had seven different hotel categories. Now that's down to just five. During this makeover, the number of category 1 and category 2 hotels increased significantly. That means the number of inexpensive award options grew, even though the overall number of hotels requiring more points also increased.

Radisson Hotels Brands

While Radisson isn't typically the first hotel brand many people think of, Radisson Hotel Group has a lot of hotels across its nine brands. The brands are:

  • Country Inn & Suites — Mid-tier hotel brand with complimentary hot breakfast for all guests
  • Park Inn — Mid-tier, modern hotel brand
  • Park Plaza — Upscale hotel with designs tailored to the hotel location
  • Prizeotel — Economy hotel brand with bold designs
  • Radisson — Upscale hotel brand, which is the flagship hotel line and uses local influences in the hotel decorations
  • Radisson Blu — Upscale brand with personalized service
  • Radisson Collection — Unique, luxury hotels in the premium brand of the hotel group
  • Radisson Individuals — Upscale hotels in key destinations
  • Radisson Red — Upscale hotel brand focusing on urban locations and informal services

Value of Radisson Rewards Points

Most evaluations value Radisson Rewards points around 0.6-0.8¢ per point. Points valuations are made from comparing the number of points used to the cash price for the same redemption.

For example, using 30,000 points instead of booking a hotel night costing $94.43 yields a value of 0.31¢ per point ($94.43 divided by 30,000 points).

Since points can be moved freely between Radisson Rewards and Radisson Rewards Americas, the points values in both programs are the same. Points transfer between the programs at a 1:1 ratio.

Radisson Rewards vs Radisson Rewards Americas

Remember that there are two programs that function identically but are separate. The Americas program covers North, Central, and South America, while the other (sometimes referred to as “international”) program covers everywhere else. Where you are staying determines which program’s points you will earn or redeem. The existence of the two programs leads to two separate websites, as well:

When the programs split, your old account should have been assigned to the region of your address in your profile. Try logging into either website with your old information to see which profile you have. You can then create a profile with the other program to earn and redeem points in each of Radisson’s loyalty programs. Having both profiles will also allow you to transfer the points in your account(s).

As long as the name and email address on the accounts is the same, transfers are straightforward, free, and instant.

Radisson Rewards Elite Status

Elite status is the same in both programs. In this section, we’ll cover how to earn elite status, what it’s worth, and what it offers to you as a customer.

Matching Status Between the Programs

Strangely, your status in Radisson Rewards Americas will not automatically match to Radisson Rewards (international). You’ll need to call customer service at 1-800-333-3333 to request the match.

Elite Status Levels

Radisson Club

  • Base level for new members
  • Earn 20 points per $1 spent on eligible hotel nights, plus food and beverages charged to your room

Lack of Lifetime Elite Status

While other hotel programs like Marriott Bonvoy and Hilton Honors offer the ability to earn lifetime status, Radisson Rewards and Radisson Rewards Americas do not. You must requalify for status each year. The simplest path to requalification is obviously by holding the Radisson Rewards Premier Visa Signature Card. This provides Gold status automatically.

Buying Radisson Points

We don’t recommend buying points as the best way to get them. However, it is possible. If you need just a few more points for a redemption, this can be a good option. Also, when there is a promotion to buy points with a bonus or a discount, you may be able to spend less on the points than you would spend paying for the hotel room in cash.

Radisson Transfer Partners

Unfortunately, Radisson Rewards (international) and Radisson Rewards Americas are not transfer partners of any major points program — such as Chase Ultimate Rewards or American Express Membership Rewards.

However, you can transfer your Radisson Americas points to several airlines at mostly a 10:1 ratio. We don't recommend doing so as you're giving up 6-8 cents in value per airline mile generated. Transfer to airline miles in 1 of 3 options:

  • 2,000 Radisson points for 200 miles (10:1 ratio)
  • 50,000 Radisson points for 5,000 miles (10:1 ratio)
  • 100,000 Radisson points for 10,000 miles (10:1 ratio)
  • Exception: SAS transfers are 7:1, which is better

Participating airlines are: Aeromexico, Air Canada, Air France / KLM, Asiana Airlines, Avianca, British Airways, Delta Air Lines, Ethiopian Airlines, Etihad, Frontier, Gulf Air, Intermiles, Japan Airlines, Kuwait Airlines, LATAM, Malaysia Airlines, Miles & More, Pegasus Airlines, Philippine Airlines, Qantas, SAS Airlines, Saudi Arabian Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Southwest Airlines, Turkish Airways, and United Airlines

Earning or Redeeming with Promotions

We see Radisson Rewards Americas and Radisson Rewards promotions quite often. Some of these include redeeming your points at a better rate or earning a bonus on award stays. Other promotions include discounts or bonus points on stays paid in cash. Make sure to keep an eye on our Radisson hotel promotions page.

Redeeming Radisson Rewards Points

Hotel Stays

You can use points for award stays and for points + cash bookings. Hotel stays are the most valuable redemption option for your points. Standard redemption rates are as follows:

  • Category 1: 15,000 points per night
  • Category 2: 30,000 points per night
  • Category 3: 45,000 points per night
  • Category 4: 60,000 points per night
  • Category 5: 75,000 points per night

Remember that you can freely transfer points between programs. Thus, if you have Radisson Rewards Americas points but want to redeem for a hotel in Asia then you need to move your points to the Radisson Rewards program.

Additionally, there are some slight differences in redemption options:

  • Radisson Rewards Americas offers “RewardSaver” rooms that cost 33% fewer points than standard rooms, but Radisson Rewards (international) doesn’t offer this rate.
  • Radisson Rewards (international) has a family room redemption option, priced roughly 25% higher than a standard room. Radisson Rewards Americas doesn’t offer this.

  • Donate points to charities like the American Red Cross and First Climate. Donate a minimum of 3,000 points; there is no maximum.

Radisson Rewards (International) Options for Other Redemptions

  • Transfer to airline miles in 1 of 3 options:
    • 2,000 Radisson points for 200 miles (10:1 ratio)
    • 50,000 Radisson points for 5,000 miles (10:1 ratio)
    • 100,000 Radisson points for 10,000 miles (10:1 ratio)
    • Participating airlines: Air France / KLM, British Airways, Emirates, and SAS
    • Exception: SAS transfers are 7:1, which is better
  • Priority Pass membership – redeem 125,000 Radisson points for a one-year membership for one person. The membership includes 10 visits. Each additional visit will cost $27. Since memberships start at $299, redeeming 125,000 points is a value of 0.24¢ per point.
  • Donate points to First Climate, which is a charity. Donate a minimum of 3,000 points; there is no maximum.

Note About Redemption Options

Remember that you can transfer points between Radisson Rewards (international) and Radisson Rewards Americas. Thus, if you have points in one program but like a redemption option in the other program, then simply transfer points to have access to what you want. You should have accounts in both programs using the same name and same email to make this possible.

Points Expiration Policy

Radisson points will expire if there is no activity on your account for 24 months. During the pandemic, Radisson temporarily paused points expiration for both programs in 2020 and 2021. However, points expiration has resumed as of January 1, 2022.

Qualifying activity (to keep your points active) includes earning points from a hotel stay or a partner, as well as redeeming for an award stay or points + cash stay.

Additionally, you can track your account with AwardWallet to keep an eye on both your points balance and upcoming expiration. This way, you shouldn’t ever lose any points.

Final Thoughts

While it can seem strange that there are two separate programs, luckily there's not a lot of nuance between the “international” and “Americas” version of the Radisson programs. They're very similar, and we highlighted the small differences in redemption options and redemption rates for the different room types. Other than this, the programs have the same hotel categories, earn points at the same rates, and you can transfer points between them at 1 to 1.

Even though it's not the first program many people think of, Radisson Rewards and Radisson Rewards Americas are worth attention. There are some niche redemptions that can provide great value. Additionally, the ability to make points + cash bookings is another strong point here.

It’s important to note that award bookings are non-refundable. I learned the hardway when I was forced to cancel a booking in order to change an incorrect date. Points were lost.
