LATAM Pass just relaunched its status match campaign and is now offering matches good through March 31, 2024. As LATAM Airlines is not part of any alliance (it left Oneworld in May 2020), status matching to LATAM Pass is really only going to be a good idea if you're flying in South America or plan to fly LATAM's partners (such as Delta, Japan Airlines, Qantas, and Qatar Airways) before the expiration date.

The match will only grant you LATAM pass elite status until March 31, 2024. So, you will need to decide whether it's worth it for just over six months of LATAM Pass elite status.

Which LATAM Pass elite status tier you'll get from this status match depends on which airline status you currently have. The only elite status which matches to LATAM Pass Gold is Avianca LifeMiles Red Plus. Unfortunately, you can't status match to LATAM Pass top-tier Black Signature.

LATAM Pass Elite Status Benefits on Delta

Delta is going to be the most relevant partnership for most U.S.-based travelers. LATAM elites can enjoy the following benefits on Delta:

  • Sky Club access — for you and one traveling companion on international itineraries on Delta, LATAM or partners.
  • Select selection — this might include preferred seats, but you must request at the airport. Not available on basic economy tickets.
  • Premium access — Silver Medallion-level perks for Gold and Gold Plus elites. Sky Priority for Platinum, Black, and Black Signature.
  • Priority baggage
  • Priority boarding — Zone 1 for Gold Plus; Sky Priority for Platinum (and higher)
  • Additional checked baggage — for Platinum, Black, and Black Signature

Our Take

Taking advantage of this status match will be an individual decision for each member. As it's not free, you'll have to determine if the benefits outweigh the fee. Obviously, this will most benefit members who are taking flights to South America — or flying LATAM's collection of partner airlines — before March 31, 2024.

Still, even if you can only enjoy elite benefits on one flight, $80-$98 is a reasonable cost for perks like free seat selection, priority baggage, and priority boarding. Here's the link to apply for your LATAM Pass status match.

  • Thanks for sharing this, the Delta matching unfortunately is incorrect. I am Platinum on Delta and that did not work. When you go to Latam’s site, they don’t match status with Delta. I have therefore requested matching with American Platinum. But when I booked my flight, I still had to pay for seating arrangements, so there are no real benefits when doing this match. I am flying on Latam in two weeks, so will see if there is any benefit at all. Just thought I would share this.

    • Thanks for the heads up on that. It’s interesting as we had gotten that information directly from the FAQ from this status match’s terms and conditions. I checked back and, indeed, they removed Delta as a status match partner!

  • Thanks for the post! I am flying to Japan at the end of March. I booked a business class award ticket on Japan Airlines with AA miles, and I have CP with Southwest so I think I would be able to match to LATAM Black. Is there any advantage to doing this since I booked with miles and I’m already flying business class? Would these perks apply mostly to flights booked with cash? Thanks again!

  • What elite benefits do you get with delta?

  • Latam is not what it used to be….
