For quite some time, Marriott's list of rental car partners has been relatively short. It's been limited to one agency: Hertz.

As of today, that list has grown and now features two new partners, Dollar and Thrifty. But no love is lost for Hertz. Marriott Bonvoy is expanding member benefits for Hertz reservations, making rentals more lucrative — especially for Bonvoy elites.

Here's what you need to know about the adjustments Marriott is making to its rental car partnerships.

Marriott Adds Dollar and Thrifty as Rental Car Partners

Dollar and Thrifty have officially sealed the deal with Marriott, joining the growing list of Bonvoy partners. Bonvoy members now have two more agencies to choose from when renting a car through Marriott's car rental portal.

Marriott members in the United States and Canada will also earn a small bonus when renting domestically or internationally through one of these new partners — to the tune of 250 bonus points on each rental.

Silver Elite and higher Bonvoy elites will earn 500 points on each Dollar and Thrifty rental, but these increased earnings won't take effect until early next year — date unknown.

Marriott Boosts Bonus Points for Hertz Rentals

If you're a Hertz loyalist or want an excuse to earn even more Bonvoy points (or both), Marriott has also boosted the bonus point amount on Hertz rentals to 500 points on each rental.

Elites will net 700 Bonvoy points per rental, but this increased bonus won't start until early next year.

The same geographic rules noted with Dollar and Thrifty apply to Hertz. You'll need to reside in the U.S. or Canada to earn, but the bonuses will extend to international rentals.
