You can now status match between Scandic Friends and Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) EuroBonus — and transfer points between the two programs. Although point transfers were initially delayed by a couple of months after the initial partnership announcement, this feature is now live too. Here’s what you can do and whether it makes sense to take advantage of this partnership.
SAS EuroBonus and Scandic Hotels Partnership Overview
This new partnership between SAS EuroBonus and Scandic Friends is relatively straightforward and includes two main features:
- Status matching between the two programs
- The ability to transfer points from one program to another at no cost

Status Match Between EuroBonus and Scandic Friends
SAS EuroBonus has three elite tiers beyond the entry level: Silver, Gold, and Diamond. Scandic Friends, on the other hand, has six membership levels beyond its entry tier, called New Friend. Here’s how the membership levels match between the two programs:
Scandic Hotels Status | SAS EuroBonus Status |
---|---|
New Friend | Member |
Good Friend | Member |
Close Friend | Member |
Dear Friend | Silver |
Loyal Friend | Gold |
True Friend | Diamond |
Best Friend | Diamond |

To initiate a match, you'll first need to link your SAS and Scandic accounts.
Transfer Points Between SAS and Scandic
Members can now freely transfer points between SAS EuroBonus and Scandic Friends. The exchange rates are:
- 1 SAS EuroBonus Point → 2 Scandic Friends Points
- 2 Scandic Friends Points → 1 SAS EuroBonus Point
Transfers are free of charge. Points retain their original expiry date, with a maximum of one year if the original expiry is longer than 12 months. As with the status match, you will need to ensure your accounts are linked in order to participate.

Should You Participate in the SAS/Scandic Partnership?
That depends on how you use each program. Because the Scandic Friends program is relatively weak in terms of perks and benefits, SAS elites matching over won’t get much to write home about.
Things look a bit different for Scandic Friends elites. For example, a Level 5 Loyal Friend member who rarely flies could match to SAS EuroBonus Gold, which is equivalent to SkyTeam Elite Plus. That means complimentary lounge access when flying internationally with any SkyTeam airline, as well as on select domestic flights.
From the perspective of a Scandic Friends Loyal Friend member, this partnership offers much more upside.

Our Take
In almost every case, the chance to leverage your status and points in one program for perks in another is welcome news. How useful these perks are will depend on your travel plans and location. Because Scandic Hotels has a relatively small footprint, this partnership may offer limited value unless you are based in one of the four Scandinavian countries, or in Germany or Poland.
Still, the ability to exchange points at a fair, no-fee rate adds flexibility and could be valuable if you’re short on points in one program. Either way, it’s good to know this partnership is fully operational.
