TD FlexPay Credit Card Benefits

Cardholders of the TD FlexPay Credit Card can enjoy three primary benefits — plus several sub-benefits. Here's an overview.

0% introductory APR on balance transfers

The TD FlexPay Credit Card offers 0% introductory APR on balance transfers for first 18 billing cycles after account opening. After that 18.24% - 28.24% variable APR based on your creditworthiness., although you will need to pay a balance transfer fee: Either $5 or 3% of the amount of each transfer, whichever is greater, on transfers made within the introductory offer. After that, either $5 or 5% of the amount of each transfer, whichever is greater.

Compared to other cards offering 0% introductory APR balance transfers, the TD FlexPay Credit Card is above average because of how long you can take advantage of this promotional rate.

Visa Platinum benefits

The TD FlexPay Credit Card is a Visa Platinum card, which carries benefits because of this designation. Here's the list of benefits associated with Visa Platinum cards:

  • Cell phone protection: Get reimbursement for your stolen or damaged cell phone when you pay your phone bill with your card. Limitations are $500 per claim and up to two claims per 12-month period, with a $50 deductible per claim.
  • Roadside dispatch: Get 24/7 roadside service courtesy of your card, but note that you'll pay for any services rendered.
  • Entertainment access: Get access to 7-Day Visa Exclusive presale opportunities for Sofar Sounds shows and a free ticket to each show with one ticket purchased during the presale period.
  • Complimentary three-month Shipt membership: The TD FlexPay Credit Card does offer 3 months free of Shipt membership, then 9 months at 50% off. The service offers free delivery when orders total $35 or more.

Late fee forgiveness

Sometimes, you might forget to pay your credit card bill. It happens. Thankfully, a key benefit of the TD FlexPay Credit Card is one waived late fee each calendar year!

While I wouldn't recommend this becoming a habit, it is a nice benefit for those unforeseen circumstances that cause you to forget to pay your bill. Keep in mind, past due payments may impact your credit score.

TD FlexPay Credit Card Earning Rates

The TD FlexPay Credit Card‘s earning rates are, well, non-existent. You won't earn any rewards on purchases or balance transfers. This makes this card a better tool to escape a higher interest rate on a card you're balance transferring from, rather than your everyday spending card.

Application Restrictions

The most significant restriction on the TD FlexPay Credit Card is the geographical restrictions to apply. You'll need to be living in a state that has a TD branch, which includes:

  • Connecticut
  • Delaware
  • Florida
  • Maine
  • Maryland
  • Massachusetts
  • New Hampshire
  • New Jersey
  • New York
  • North Carolina
  • Pennsylvania
  • Rhode Island
  • South Carolina
  • Vermont
  • Virginia
  • Washington, D.C.

Outside of geography, TD Bank has few of the onerous application rules and restrictions you'll find with other issues. There are no published limitations on the number of TD cards you can have at once, nor are there restrictions on the amount of time that needs to elapse between applications. That said, you should remember that frequent card applications can negatively impact your credit score.

Bottom Line

The TD FlexPay Card is worth a look, but only if you live in a state in which the card is open to new applicants and you carry a balance on another credit card. Cell phone protection is a nice perk of holding the card, and the reduced balance transfer fee compared to other competing products helps keep costs down.

That said, several other cards offer higher sign-up bonuses, rewards for spending, and more robust benefits, all with similar introductory APR periods. Thus, this card likely won't be your first choice (or the one that appears at the top of the list when you search “Best Balance Transfer Cards“), but it still deserves a look when making financial decisions for your family.
