United MileagePlus is one of the most practical airline programs for award travel, thanks to its ever-growing route network and access to a large partner network.

If you earn Chase Ultimate Rewards points, you can transfer them directly to United MileagePlus at a 1:1 ratio. Transfers are typically instant, but there are a few things you'll want to know before moving your points.

Here's how to transfer your Chase Ultimate Rewards points to United MileagePlus in just a few simple steps — and when it makes sense to do so.

When Does It Make Sense To Transfer Chase Points to United?

Transferring Chase points to United makes sense when you’ve found an available award that offers better value than your other booking options. This might include an expensive domestic United flight, a last-minute trip, or a premium-cabin award on a Star Alliance partner.

Before transferring, compare the United award price with the cash fare and the number of points you’d need through Chase Travel. For example, transferring 60,000 points for a $600 flight would yield no more than 1 cent per point after accounting for taxes and fees. Booking through Chase Travel may cost fewer points, depending on your card and whether Points Boost is available.

However, if the same $600 flight costs 20,000 United miles, you're much better off transferring points to book the award flight. Just check whether another Chase transfer partner offers the same flight for fewer points before you transfer.

Once you’ve found the best option and confirmed availability, transfer only the number of points you need. Chase transfers to travel partners are irreversible.

How To Transfer Chase Points to United

Step one is to log in to the Ultimate Rewards website and open your account dashboard.

If you have multiple Chase cards, choose the one you want to transfer points from. If you have some cards that don't directly transfer to Ultimate Rewards partners, like the Chase Freedom Unlimited^® (Rates & Fees), you'll need to combine your Ultimate Rewards onto one card before starting the transfer process.

Find the Ultimate Rewards transfer partners

In the navigation menu, click “Travel” and then “Transfer points to partners.” Make sure you’ve selected a Chase card eligible for transfers. Otherwise, you won’t see these options.

The second step is navigating over to "Transfer points to partners."

After clicking “Transfer points to partners,” you'll be taken to the “Transfer Points” page, where Chase’s complete list of transfer partners is displayed.

Here are all the airline partners of Chase Ultimate Rewards.

To transfer Chase points to United, select “United Airlines” from the list.

If Chase offers a transfer bonus to United, you'll see it displayed under “Bonus offers” at the top of your screen. However, we've never seen a transfer bonus from Chase to United.

Transfer Chase points to United MileagePlus

Once you select United MileagePlus, click “Transfer Points” at the bottom of the page. To initiate the transfer, enter the number of points you want to turn into miles.

All transfers must occur in 1,000-point increments. For every 1,000 Ultimate Rewards points you transfer, you'll receive 1,000 MileagePlus miles. Before moving any further, double-check that the amount you're transferring is correct. Transfers are final, so you can't move your points back from United to Chase.

Link your Chase Ultimate Rewards and United MileagePlus accounts

Here, you’ll need to fill out a simple form to link your Chase and United accounts. Make sure you have your MileagePlus number handy.

The name and MileagePlus number on your loyalty account must match the name of a primary cardholder or an authorized user. Double-check your information before submitting it, since an error could delay your transfer and you'll have to call into Chase to fix it.

If you've transferred Chase points to United before, your MileagePlus number should already be saved.

After you've confirmed, click “Submit.” You'll shortly receive notice from Chase via email that your points transfer to United is being processed.

In almost all cases, Chase points transfer to United miles instantly, which means you'll have access to your new stash of MileagePlus miles as soon as you log in to your United account. Chase officially quotes a window of up to seven business days, but instant transfers are the norm, and you can start redeeming your United miles as soon as they show up.

Checklist Before You Transfer Chase Points to United

Before moving any Ultimate Rewards points to United MileagePlus, take a minute to double-check the following:

Confirm award availability first. United award space can disappear quickly. Make sure the flight you want is actually bookable before transferring points.
Verify the mileage cost. United uses dynamic pricing, so award rates can vary widely. Ensure the mileage price makes sense compared to cash fares.
Compare other Chase redemption options. In some cases, booking through Chase Travel or transferring to a different airline partner may deliver better value. Compare your options before transferring.
Remember that transfers are irreversible. Once Chase points move to United, they can’t be transferred back or to another program.
Check for fees and surcharges. United generally has reasonable taxes and fees, but partner awards can vary by route. Pay extra attention when booking business class fares and comparing fees to what partner airlines charge for the same flight.
Transfer only what you need. Since transfers are instant, it’s best to move the exact number of points required for your booking.
