Hyatt’s acquisition of Mr & Mrs Smith has become one of the most significant recent expansions of the World of Hyatt program. Around 1,000 Mr & Mrs Smith properties now participate in World of Hyatt, giving members far more boutique and luxury hotel options around the world.

But the integration comes with trade-offs. Members can earn and redeem Hyatt points at participating properties, but elite benefits are limited, award pricing is dynamic, and many familiar Hyatt perks don’t apply.

Here’s what you need to know before booking a Mr & Mrs Smith stay through World of Hyatt.

What Is Mr & Mrs Smith?

Mr & Mrs Smith is a curated collection and booking platform for independent luxury hotels around the world. Its portfolio includes more than 2,300 boutique hotels, resorts, and villas, ranging from treehouses and safari lodges to beachfront retreats and city hotels.

At the time of writing, around 1,000 of those properties currently participate in World of Hyatt, with additional hotels expected to join over time.

Unlike traditional Hyatt brands like Park Hyatt or Andaz, Mr & Mrs Smith doesn't operate under a single set of brand standards. Each property is independently owned, so the experience can vary significantly from one hotel to the next.

Locations of Mr & Mrs Smith Properties

The best way to view all participating Mr & Mrs Smith properties is to head to Hyatt's Hotels & Resorts map and filter by the Mr & Mrs Smith brand. You can also browse properties on the Mr & Mrs Smith website, but that will display the entire portfolio — including hotels that don't participate in World of Hyatt.

Benefits at Mr & Mrs Smith Hotels

You'll still receive several World of Hyatt benefits at participating Mr & Mrs Smith hotels. However, because these are independently operated properties, some perks are unique to each hotel, while others differ from the benefits you'd typically receive at a traditional Hyatt brand.

Smith Extra

When booking a participating Mr & Mrs Smith property, you'll enjoy a complimentary “Smith Extra.” This perk is listed on the property's booking page and varies by hotel. For example, one luxury treehouse in Sweden offers guests a complimentary two-hour visit to its tree sauna.

Every participating property offers its own Smith Extra, so be sure to check the booking page to see what's included with your stay. What extras, you ask?

World of Hyatt elite benefits

World of Hyatt Globalist members staying at these participating Mr & Mrs Smith hotels receive a room upgrade if available at check-in.

For those of us who have grown accustomed to all the niceties of being a Hyatt Globalist — from free daily breakfast for up to two adults and two children, waived resort fees, free parking when on a points stay, and many other perks — stays at Mr & Mrs Smith will feel like a bit of a letdown from that perspective. No other elite in-hotel benefits are extended to Hyatt members.

You'll also note that none of your hard-earned Milestone Rewards can be used at these hotels. Guest of Honor Awards, Suite Upgrade Awards, Club Lounge Access Awards, and more importantly, Free Night Awards — whether earned through status, your credit card, or Brand Explorer — can't be used at Mr & Mrs Smith hotels either, unfortunately.

World of Hyatt point earnings

You'll earn the same number of points at Mr & Mrs Smith properties as you do at other Hyatt-branded properties. Members earn 5 base points per dollar spent, and you can earn more with Hyatt elite status.

If you use The World of Hyatt Credit Card (Rates & Fees), you can earn up to 9 points per dollar spent — 5 base points plus 4 bonus points for staying at Hyatt hotels and resorts.

Other World of Hyatt benefits

While you can't use any of your earned awards, stays at Mr & Mrs Smith properties (whether on points or paid rates) will count as elite-qualifying nights for Hyatt Milestone Rewards and will help you move up the rungs of elite status.

Hyatt Brand Explorer

Mr & Mrs Smith stays count as a brand for Hyatt Brand Explorer. That means there's another potential checkmark you could earn to help you qualify for a Free Night Award. Every five unique brands you stay at will get you one Free Night Award.

Redeeming World of Hyatt Points With Mr & Mrs Smith

Although you don't get much in the way of benefits when staying at Mr & Mrs Smith properties, you can use your World of Hyatt points to book those stays — at least with the properties that participate in the program. Any room available to book with cash should be available to book with points through Hyatt's website.

But that's as far as the good news goes.

You won't find Mr & Mrs Smith properties listed on Hyatt's standard award chart. That's because these redemptions are dynamically priced, so the number of points required generally tracks the cash price of the room.

This, sadly, quashes any dream of squeezing outsized value from your World of Hyatt points for the many dreamy destinations and wonderful properties that are now part of the Hyatt family.

There's a silver lining, though: the previous Hyatt-SLH properties had a floor. That meant none of them would price below Category 3 in the standard award charts. Mr & Mrs Smith properties don't have this floor, so if you can find a hotel that's relatively cheap, you should be able to book it for very few points.

For example, nightly rates for the Pulitzer Buenos Aires hover around $100, which makes award stays bookable for around 8,750 points.

Bottom Line

Hyatt’s addition of Mr & Mrs Smith marks a major expansion of its global footprint, especially in markets where Hyatt previously lacked options. While Globalists won’t receive their usual suite of elite perks, the ability to earn and redeem points — and to unlock a whole new world of unique luxury hotels — makes this a valuable addition to the World of Hyatt portfolio. Just be prepared for dynamic pricing, limited elite recognition, and no award redemptions like Free Night or Guest of Honor.

Still, if you're looking for unique stays and broader destination coverage, this World of Hyatt Mr & Mrs Smith partnership opens the door.

Mr&Mrs Smith ended their relationship with IHG, supposedly mutually. But for members MMS were a pain to deal with. It seems the same with Hyatt. I wish bloggers would stop with this emphasis on Globalist. Most of us are not Globalists!

This blog does a fantastic job of explaining Hyatt’s partnership with Mr & Mrs Smith. It’s exciting that Hyatt now offers such a wide range of unique luxury hotels. The ability to earn and redeem points at these exclusive properties makes it even more valuable.

  • Alex says:

This piece is inaccurate. You do not get a Mr. and Mrs Smith perk upon check-in. I feel like this was an emotional acquisition on the part of Hyatt since the Mr. & Mrs Smith brand is a booking engine just like Tablet Hotels. They don’t have equity/management stake in the hotels themselves. They are a pain when it comes to modifying. a reservation and don’t even think about canceling. Hilton took over the SLH partnership and Marriott has MGM. The Hyatt brand was frankly bland outside of the Park and a few Andaz and Centric’s. They are driven by rate efficiency as seen by the extraordinary number of Hyatt Place/Houses and now Studios.

Not all properties are on Hyatt.com so the implementation of it was done very poorly too.

    • Tyler Glatt says:

Hi Alex, thanks for reaching out. When this piece was published, Hyatt was still offering Smith Extras on stays. However, it’s possible that changed — and it’s also possible the properties you stayed at might not have been aware of the benefit if they were supposed to offer it (which, to your point, is probably because they’re not typical Hyatt hotels).

We’ll reach out to Hyatt to see what the deal is, and update the post as necessary.

      • Tyler Glatt says:

Hi Alex, following up! Per Hyatt: World of Hyatt members who book Mr & Mrs Smith stays through World of Hyatt may receive a Smith Extra based on availability.

So, it doesn’t look like it’s guaranteed, but it does still exist!

Hyatt–SLH partnership offered free breakfast to all on points, something I don’t see with Mr & Mrs Smith.

No Mr & Mrs Smith showing yet on the Map search.
