Today, Wells Fargo announced the introduction of the long-rumored Wells Fargo Autograph Journey℠ Card, plus the addition of new Wells Fargo transfer partners. Not bad for a Wednesday morning!

There's a lot to unpack, so here we go.

Wells Fargo Unveils the Autograph Journey Card

New cards coming to the market are always a pleasant sight to see. And the more we look under the hood at the Wells Fargo Autograph Journey℠ Card, the more we can justify our original excitement.

The benefits and the press release indicate that Wells Fargo's newest product tailors to frequent travelers. With a $95 annual fee, it seems designed to compete head-to-head with the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card and the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card.

Here's a look at the earning categories:

  • 5X points per $1 spent on hotels
  • 4X points per $1 spent on airlines
  • 3X points per $1 spent on other travel and dining
  • 1X points per $1 spent on other purchases

While the full details are still unknown, Wells Fargo has shared the card won't have transaction fees and will have industry-leading travel and protection benefits. Specifically, trip cancellation insurance will protect cardholders by offering up to $15,000 for lodging, flights, and activities if your trip is canceled for a reason covered in the card's terms.

Wells Fargo is opening applications in select branches on March 9, 2024 and will make the Autograph Journey℠ Visa® Card fully available nationwide online and in branches starting on March 20, 2024.

The initial card sign-up bonus will be 60,000 bonus reward points after spending $4,000 in the first 3 months.

New Wells Fargo Transfer Partners

After months of teasing, Wells Fargo has finally announced it's launching a new transfer partner program. The program will be available on Wells Fargo's point-earning cards on April 4, 2024. That means you'll be able to use the Autograph Journey℠ Visa® Card's 60,000 bonus rewards points.

The initial batch of transfer partners includes a slate of familiar faces:

  • Aer Lingus AerClub
  • Air France/KLM Flying Blue
  • Avianca Lifemiles
  • British Airways Executive Club
  • Choice Privileges
  • Iberia Plus

It's a quality first list, but you can expect it to grow. Wells Fargo advertised that it plans to add more throughout the year.

A spokesperson for Wells Fargo confirmed that all points will transfer to these partners at a 1:1 ratio — with the exception of Choice. This will happen at a 1:2 ratio, which matches the transfer ratio from Citi and beats the transfer ratio from Capital One and American Express. The elevated transfer ratio to Choice is likely because Wells Fargo issues Choice's co-branded credit cards.

Final Thoughts

The introduction of a new credit card is always well received. And in the case of the Wells Fargo Autograph Journey℠ Card, there's likely a lot to look forward to. We will let you know more as we learn more about this card.
