OneKeyCash is the currency of the combined
You can earn and redeem OneKeyCash on your Expedia, Vrbo, and Hotels.com bookings. Like most programs, OneKeyCash is subject to an expiration policy. Here is everything you need to know to keep your OneKeyCash active.
Does OneKeyCash Expire?
Your OneKeyCash expires if you have not made a booking or completed a redemption for 18 months. Per the Hotels.com and Vrbo terms and conditions pages:
“Base and Preferred Inventory OneKeyCash will not expire as long as you have made an Eligible Booking or redeemed a Redemption Reward through a Participating Brand on your Account at least once in the preceding eighteen (18) months. If there has been no such activity, all accumulated Base and Promotional OneKeyCash and Trip Elements in your Account will expire and will not be reinstated.”
Note that promotional OneKeyCash may have a different expiration deadline. These deadlines will be specified in the promotion in which the OneKeyCash is earned.
Once expired, your OneKeyCash cannot be reinstated.

Activity to Extend Your OneKeyCash Validity
You can reset your OneKeyCash validity by making one of the following booking types with a brand member (Vrbo, Expedia, and Hotels.com):
- Hotel stays
- Vacation packages
- Cruises
- Flights and/or car rental
- Eligible activity or package
- Accommodation rental
You can also reset the standard 18-month expiration period by redeeming OneKeyCash toward an eligible booking, including:
- Eligible flights on Expedia — provided your OneKeyCash covers the entire flight cost, including taxes and fees
- “Pay Now” hotel stays
- Participating vacation rentals
- “Pay Now” car rentals
- “Pay Now” activities
- Eligible portions of select Expedia packages
OneKeyCash may also cover insurance purchased with certain eligible bookings. Redemption availability and restrictions vary by booking type; check the payment options at checkout.
Does One Key credit card spending extend expiration?
Past One Key terms explicitly stated that earning OneKeyCash through the One Key or One Key+ credit card counted as qualifying activity for the 18-month expiration policy. However, the updated rewards terms dated July 28, 2026 no longer include that language.
If you're relying on credit card spending to keep your balance active, check your account's expiration date and confirm with One Key that your card earnings extend it. Until this discrepancy is clarified, the only ways that definitely extend your expiration are making an eligible booking or redemption.

Our Take
The standard 18-month expiration window gives you time to keep your OneKeyCash active with an eligible booking or redemption. However, different types of OneKeyCash can have different deadlines, so check the expiration dates attached to your rewards rather than assuming your entire balance follows the same rule.
Your best bet is to track your One Key Rewards with AwardWallet to stay on top of your various OneKeyCash validity deadlines. The app will let you know in a timely manner when your cash is about to expire.

I understand that making purchases on either of the OneKey credit cards also counts as qualifying activity to keep earning points, thus avoiding the expiration date issue. No?
That’s correct. Thanks for asking this because it seems OneKey has updated its terms since our last update of this post.
They say on my site that my elements are going to expire the end of this year but I just used it in October and again for car in November. Can you make sure it doesn’t expire next year? Or do I have to book something this year for next year?
Hi Susan, if you had bookings recently, then your OneKeyCash shouldn’t be expiring. Have you contacted customer service to ask what’s going on?
