Etihad Airways and Ethiopian Airlines just expanded their partnership. Following the announcement of a strategic codeshare partnership in March 2025, Ethiopian began flights to Abu Dhabi in July, and Etihad began daily flights to Addis Ababa in October 2025. Now, you can earn and redeem Etihad Guest Miles on Ethiopian flights. Here's what to know.

Earn and Redeem Etihad Guest Miles on Ethiopian-Operated Flights

As of October 27, 2025, flights taken on Ethiopian Airlines are eligible to earn Etihad Guest Miles. However, these flights won't earn Etihad Guest Tier Miles. To get credit for your flight, simply enter your Etihad Guest number when making a booking or at check-in. The number of miles you'll earn will depend on your fare class and distance traveled:

  • Business (C, J, D): 125%
  • Business (P, Y, G, S, B): 100%
  • Economy (M, K, L): 75%
  • Economy (V, H): 50%
  • Economy (U, Q, T, E, O, W): 25%

And now as of November 2025, the partnership extends to redemptions. You can use your Etihad Guest miles to book a flight on Ethiopian Airlines directly through the Etihad website. Here's how many miles you'll need to book a one-way flight:

Ethiopian operates flights out of five U.S. gateways:

  • Chicago (ORD)
  • Atlanta (ATL)
  • Washington (IAD)
  • New York City (EWR, JFK)

Most of these flights will fall into the longest distance band, so you'll need to pay 75,000 Etihad Guest Miles for a flight in economy or 140,000 miles for a flight in business. Paired with Etihad's punitive award cancellation policy, there's likely a better way to book these flights.

However, apart from flights to Ethiopia, you can fly from select U.S. hubs to West Africa, like New York City (JFK) to Abidjan (ABJ) or Washington (IAD) to Lomé (LFW), which fall into lower bands.

Unfortunately, after performing numerous searches to and from each of these U.S. hubs, we didn't find any availability for Ethiopian-operated flights using Etihad Guest Miles, even when there was availability on other partners like United Airlines. It might take some time for the Etihad system to fully integrate Ethiopian award flights, but at least we now know how much they will cost.

Bottom Line

Ethiopian Airlines has a fairly extensive route map, offering flights between Ethiopia and North America, South America, Europe, Asia, and other African countries. Now, you can earn and redeem Etihad Guest Miles on your Ethiopian Airlines flights.
