LifeMiles Award Sale Eligible Routes
Avianca generally runs an award sale each month (or sometimes multiple in one month). In fact, the last sale ended just a couple of days before this one launched. However, there seems to be more route options than normal. There are also routes between non-U.S. cities available, which is great if you want to extend your vacation by visiting a new city.
To give you an idea of what's out there, here are some of the advertised “starting at” one-way prices for non-cardholders. Promotional mileage shown as a reference for basic economy/light tickets:
- New York (JFK) to Río de Janeiro (GIG) from 18,140 LifeMiles
- San Francisco (SFO) to Buenos Aires (EZE) from 15,120 LifeMiles
- Miami (MIA) to Cali (CLO) from 7,980 LifeMiles
- Los Angeles (LAX) to Bogota (BOG) from 6,210 LifeMiles
- Boston (BOS) to Medellin (MDE) from 6,300 LifeMiles
- Washington (IAD) to San Salvador (SAL) from 4,950 LifeMiles
- Dallas (DFW) to San Jose (SJO) from 10,260 LifeMiles
- Chicago (ORD) to San Pedro Sula (SAP) from 4,530 LifeMiles
- Tampa (TPA) to Lima (LIM) from 7,280 LifeMiles
- Miami (MIA) to Barranquilla (BAQ) from 3,470 LifeMiles
Business class awards are also discounted. Here's an idea of how much you'll spend:
- Los Angeles (LAX) to San Salvador (SAL) from 13,120 LifeMiles
- Washington (IAD) to Cartagena (CTG) from 19,260 LifeMiles
- Fort Lauderdale (FLL) to La Paz (LPB) from 29,070 LifeMiles
- Tampa (TPA) to Guayaquil (GYE) from 23,330 LifeMiles
- Orlando (MCO) to Quito (UIO) from 17,910 LifeMiles
- Boston (BOS) to Cuzco (CUZ) from 33,510 LifeMiles
- Miami (MIA) to Lima (LIM) from 31,210 LifeMiles
- New York (JFK) to Panama City (PTY) from 29,800 LifeMiles
While some of these fares might seem too good to be true, certain routes are operated by an Airbus A320, which is a smaller, single-aisle aircraft. While more comfortable than economy, don't expect a lie-flat seat.
Finally, there are several European routes on sale, including one for our West Coast readers:
- Miami (MIA) to Barcelona (BCN) from 38,000 LifeMiles in economy, from 63,900 LifeMiles in business
- Fort Lauderdale (FLL) to Madrid (MAD) from 47,200 LifeMiles in economy, from 73,130 LifeMiles in business
- Washington (IAD) to Madrid (MAD) from 30,650 LifeMiles in economy, from 56,310 LifeMiles in business
- Miami (MIA) to Paris (CDG) from 36,430 LifeMiles in economy, from 73,780 LifeMiles in business
- San Francisco (SFO) to Madrid (MAD) from 45,910 LifeMiles in economy, from 71,420 LifeMiles in business
These transatlantic routes feature INSIGNIA by Avianca, a business class product on par with other airlines. You'll enjoy a lie-flat seat, chef-curated meals, and access to Avianca lounges.
How to book a discounted Avianca award flight
To book, visit the Avianca LifeMiles landing page, log in, and enter your search parameters. At first glance, availability looks fantastic, but the “sale” marker doesn't align with available flights 100% of the time.
Thus, finding a date bookable at advertised rates will require a fair amount of patience. Look for the red line under a date to see availability for sale prices. And note that this promotion has blackout windows from March 29 to April 5 and from June 4 to July 31, meaning you won't see a sale price when searching for those dates.

But if you're patient, you can find routes for the cheapest advertised price. Or, even cheaper if you can take advantage of the Club LifeMiles / LifeMiles+ discount.

Assuming you can find a discounted route, you might think the pricing is too good to pass up. However, ensure you compare the three economy fare options. For a variable number of miles, you can add extra perks like carry-on and checked bags, seat selection, and more.

Ultimately, the dirt-cheap rate might be one you'll want to avoid — especially if you plan on bringing bags with you or value check-in at the airport. Otherwise, you'll pay out of pocket for these ancillary costs. Luckily, the fares that include bags and seats are also on sale.
While these award rates sound incredible, check the math to make sure you're getting a good deal. In the example above, you could redeem 5,670 LifeMiles and pay $55.20 out of pocket for a one-way flight between Boston (BOS) and Medellin (MDE) with a layover in Bogotá (BOG).
Alternatively, you could purchase a paid fare on that same flight for $203.70. In this case, you're getting a value of 2.62 cents per LifeMile from this discounted award. This is slightly lower than the 2.85¢ cents per mile average that AwardWallet users typically get from Avianca LifeMiles. However, thanks to the 15% transfer bonus to Avianca from American Express through March 28, 2026, you'd only need a handful of Membership Rewards points to book this reward.
Boosting Your Avianca LifeMiles Balance
One of the best aspects of Avianca's program is that LifeMiles are incredibly easy to earn. Avianca partners with several credit card rewards programs, so you can transfer a small sum of bank points to book these awards. Given the short booking window, you'll want to make your transfer soon if this is a promotion you'd like to take advantage of.

Our Take
Through March 9, 2026, you can book an Avianca LifeMiles award on sale, which is fantastic if you can find a bookable itinerary that fits your schedule and gives you a good redemption rate.
But before you book anything, make sure the inclusions in your fare are suitable. The cheap rates are intriguing, but they may not permit anything more than one personal item. And remember to consider how fixed your travel plans are due to Avianca's stiff change and cancellation policies.
