Boosting your Turkish Airlines Mileage Balance
If you are short on Turkish Airlines miles, remember you can always transfer Citi ThankYou points to Turkish Airlines. Typically, points transfer at a ratio of 1:1, with a minimum transfer of 1,000 points. Turkish Miles & Smiles passes along fuel surcharges for Star Alliance awards, but this won't be a factor for this sale because out-of-pocket costs for flights operated by Turkish Airlines are very reasonable.
Looking at the list, the standout destination on offer is Bangkok, which would set you back 63,000 miles roundtrip in business class, or 42,000 miles roundtrip in economy class. If there is another city you find interesting, you can determine the cost of your award by using the Turkish Airline's awards chart.
Our Take
It is disappointing, but not surprising, that there no U.S. destinations participating in the promotion; however, if you are going to be in Europe and are looking to travel further afield, then this promotion can be lucrative. Especially when you consider that Turkish Airlines has one of the biggest international route maps, and is one of the best airlines in Europe.
- 60,000 point signup bonus worth $800 towards airfare through the ThankYou Travel Center, or potentially much more when transferred to airline partners
- 3X points per $1 on airfare and hotels and at gas stations, restaurants, and supermarkets
- Annual Hotel Benefit: Save $100 off a single hotel stay of $500 or more (excluding taxes and fees) when you book through ThankYou.com
- No foreign transaction fees
- $95 annual fee
- 3X points per $1 spent on airfare, hotels, and at gas stations
- 3X points per $1 spent on dining at restaurants, including cafes, bars and lounges
- 3X points per $1 spent at supermarkets
- 1X points per $1 spent on all other purchases

Two questions:
I’ve heard from two people that Turkish Air customer service is horrible. If you have a problem with a connection, the desk reps aren’t too willing/able to help. Have others had that situation?
Second is, can I transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points to Turkish Air?
Turkish isn’t a UR partner: https://awardwallet.com/blog/chase-ultimate-rewards-transfer-partners/
No personal experience with Turkish during irregular operations. If you book your itinerary as a single ticket, they are obligated to get you to your final destination under the contract of carriage. You shouldn’t need to deal with anyone outside the airport.
Surprise not one promo flight to China
It certainly makes the miles go further, so it’s a definite bonus.
Actually, I’ve never credited my miles on Turkish Airlines except one time because it was the only possibility.
I wonder if there are cheap redemptions.
Great info! Has anyone had good experience with Turkish Airlines? Never used them but open to it if they have done well with other people’s travels.
Love Istanbul. Turkish Air was very good last time I went.
I know they can be a sweet spot as a partner, but seems they aren’t easy to book and issues with names, etc. on reservations.
We don’t hear too much about Turkish Air but I’ve flown them 3 times & they are actually a fabulous airline. This is a good promo to jump on!
Nice bonus, but looks like it would be very hard to use for a US based traveler
I had to look up where places like Yanbu or Voronezh were. It’s amazing how many destinations Turkish flies to from Istanbul
Turkish Air can never get my address correct. They have drop down menu with cities that don’t match to where I live. Really not interested in this.
thats an odd problem to have
Best food in the sky!
Turkish airways are a chepa way to go from Latinoamérica to Europe and on layiver you can do a tour to visit.
It’s tidbits like this that make some of the comments on a post just as valuable as the post itself at times. Thanks for the heads up.
That’s unfortunate US destinations are not a part of this
I can say I’ve never taken Turkish Airlines. How are they?
We flew from Istanbul to Paris some years ago. Can’t complain about the service – crew were fantastic and the food was delicious!
The lounges at the new airport are really nice.
