Our Take
If you are after Virgin Atlantic Miles and are planning to rent cars anyway, then this promotion has arrived just in time. If you need more miles, remember you can transfer American Express Membership Rewards to Virgin Atlantic at a ratio of 1:1. However, through September 12, 2018, you can receive a 30% bonus on Membership Rewards transfers to Virgin Atlantic Flying Club.

I love those non flying mileage earning bonuses too.
Is this deal only for UK residents? I tried to book and it wouldn’t let me change my country of residence from UK.
Seems like a bug on that page – the T&C do not have such a limit.
Another opportunity. Thanks for the info.
I absolutely love these cross promotions!
Just booked my reservation with Avis.
Hopefully the miles will post properly.
I like these non-flying mileage earning bonuses. Helps to build up towards a redemption.
no rentals planned during this time.
bummer
I’ll check the Sweetspots and maybe…maybe participate in the Promo! Thanks for the Info!
a rental of 3 days or more is the catch.
If the rental price is the same through the portal as through the Avis direct website this makes for a good, good deal.
looks like a good deal!
Too bad, we just booked Australia
I have a work trip, but I can’t booked group C or higher.
The amount of miles is certainly a bonus but I have always found that renting through an airline portal always increases the base price for the car substantially. Unless I was renting a car through my work (other people’s money) this is the one time I always use Expedia or one of the other travel consolidators. That being said, you can often still give them the airline loyalty number and get 500 points out of the deal. You also get Expedia points and since I usually click through Mypoints, I get those type of points also. All for the cheapest rate to rent the car and with no limitation on the class of car. (Which is also a dealbreaker for me.)
Bad luck: next months I have a trip in Australia and a trip in Ecuador.
Australia and South America are both excluded from the promo!
not a bad promo. I don’t think I’ve ever seen this before.
I looked at what a Class C car was and I don’t think it’d be bad. I wonder why they picked that. I wonder if you could buy Class C and then upgrade at the counter.
Easy way to get more miles with Virgin. Going to change my car rental so I can get this deal. Thanks for the info.
Thanks, great timing as I need to book a hire and this comes along.
4000 virgin points is a great offer, I think I’ll switch my hire car strategy for a while.
You have until August 15th to complete the bookings. Do you have many to book?
Oh, damn. This is great. Useful for Delta flights.
Unfortunately there are lots of data points where Avis doesn’t pay out the bonus miles, blaming the customer for not following the T&Cs precisely. I usually now avoid these promos.
Most business trips don’t allow group C rentals 🙁
Good if you want to grab some Virgin miles, but Avis is just god awful to deal with from a customer experience perspective.
They are good enough and sometime cheaper than others
It’s interesting you say that because I’ve personally found Avis actually quite good
Thank you, I’m going to rent a car twice in nearest future – I think, right now it’s the best deal for rentals’ points or miles. Marriott after July 31 are not giving 5k points (probly till merger on Aug 15)
Too bad about the Class C vehicle requirement, but great if you’re already in the market for that rental category.
I wish I could take advantage of this but Virgin Airlines does not service my area.
Virgin Atlantic doesn’t need to fly to your airport(s) for you to be able to leverage their program – take a look here: https://awardwallet.com/blog/sweet-spots-for-virgin-atlantic-flying-club-awards/
Thanks for the additional info!!
Bad timing for me as I have no upcoming rentals in my site.
The C Class requirement cancels out the bonus for me.
nice deal for those in need.
