The long-awaited Delta One Lounge in Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is finally opening to the public on Thursday, October 10, 2024. This is welcome news to travelers eagerly awaiting the opportunity to experience Delta's new, exclusive business-class-only lounges.

American Airlines and United Airlines have had premium lounges for their business-class travelers for some time, but Delta has lagged its competition in this area. Until a few months ago, even if you flew in Delta One Suites, your only lounge option has been a Delta Sky Club. Unfortunately, these popular lounges have dealt with overcrowding for years.

In an effort to reduce crowding, Delta limited access to Sky Clubs, which disappointed many Delta travelers. Finally, in 2022, Delta announced plans to open premium lounges in New York (JFK) and Los Angeles (LAX), later adding a location in Boston (BOS) to the plans. The first of these three is now open to eligible travelers with the second set to open this week.

What amenities are featured, and how can you access the lounge? Here's what to expect in Delta's latest and greatest addition to its airport lounge portfolio.

What Are Delta One Lounges?

The three Delta One Lounges launching this year in New York (JFK), Los Angeles (LAX), and Boston (BOS) are each designed to provide an elevated lounge experience. The concept aims to have less of an “airport” feel and more of a hotel or restaurant ambiance. Each unique space is designed specifically for and inspired by the city where it is located.

Claude Roussel, Vice President of Sky Club and Lounge Experience, has described his vision for the new lounges:

“It’s a new era for Delta — this lounge is raising the bar across the board, from the amenities to the food and beverage offerings to the level of personalized service. We want our guests to feel the difference here; moreover, we want them to feel welcomed and valued from the moment they step through the door.”

What Can You Expect in the Delta One Lounge at LAX?

A new lounge is set to open at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), which is a big deal if you're a business class passenger or top-tier SkyMiles elite member traveling through the West Coast. Delta's new outpost is adjacent to the Delta Sky Club at Terminal 3 and has room to to welcome 200 guests. If you're point of origin is LAX, you can access the lounge directly from the Delta One check-in counter.

Like most premium lounges nowadays, the design is nothing short of elegant and all of the art pays homage to both local artists and others from around the world. However, the best aspect of this lounge is an outdoor terrace, which will give passengers an opportunity to catch a breath of fresh air before getting on an airplane.

And when you're done checking out the great outdoors, you can enjoy internationally-inspired food and beverage delivered to you via attendant, so you don't have to get out of your seat. Touches like these build on the experience Delta wants to create at its business-class-only lounges — nothing less than premium.

However, it's worth noting that lounge mockups, pictures, and ideals might not tell the whole story about a lounge. While Delta One Lounges may be business class-focused, these lounges can get crowded quickly, especially on off-peak travel days. Keep this in mind before you plan to check out Delta's newest space.

What Can You Expect in the Delta One Lounge at JFK?

Located in Terminal 4 in between Concourse A and B, the brand-new upscale lounge occupies a whopping 39,000 square feet. This is the largest Delta lounge by far, with no shortage of luxurious amenities. With bespoke decor and curated design elements, this beautiful space even features a year-round terrace with a retractable roof. The lounge is open daily from 4:30 am until 11:00 pm.

Here are some of the available high-end amenities:

  • 140-seat Brasserie restaurant provides a three-course meal service with offerings such as Hamachi crudo, steak tartare, and lasagna Bolognese.
  • A self-service Market and Bakery, with pre-plated seasonal bites.

  • A dedicated wellness area with relaxation pods equipped with full-body massage chairs and nap chairs, and available treatments from certified therapists

  • A full-service bar with elevated cocktails and even a drink cart so you can get a beverage without leaving your seat
  • Shower Suites with luxury robes and slippers
  • Valets to steam clothes and shine shoes while you shower

With its grand size, luxury amenities, and customized design elements by Italian fashion house Missoni, this lounge looks incredible. However, it's already suffering from overcrowding during peak travel times.

More Delta One Lounges Locations in the Works

The third planned location in Boston will open later this year. Here's what we know so far:

Delta One Lounge at Boston (BOS)

In 2023, Delta Sky Club debuted a 21,000-square-foot location in Boston Logan Airport's International Terminal E, known to frequent travelers as BOS-E. This recent opening will soon receive another expansion. Connected to the current BOS-E Sky Club, the final Delta One Lounge to be opened this year will add another 6,300 square feet. It will seat up to 120 travelers. Guests to the Delta One Lounge will have access to both spaces.

How To Access the Delta One Lounge

Who will have access to these new premium lounges? We now know the answer. Here is how you can enjoy the Delta One Lounge:

Fly with a qualifying ticket

Delta One passengers with a same-day Delta One ticket will be permitted access to the lounge. In addition, access is also granted to Delta 360 Members who have same-day first-class Delta tickets. You can also enjoy the lounge if you are flying on the following partner airlines with a departing or connecting same-day boarding pass in the class of service specified:

  • Air France La Premiere and Business Class (long-haul)
  • LATAM Premium Business Class
  • KLM Business Class
  • Korean Air First Class and Prestige Class
  • Virgin Atlantic Upper Class

Hold invite-only elite status

No elite status level will permit you to enter the Delta One Lounge — except for the invitation-only Delta 360 status. Even then, Delta's highest tier of elite status only permits entrance when flying first class.

You cannot bring in a guest unless you are a Delta 360 member traveling in Delta One or Delta First Class. In that case, you may guest in your immediate family (spouse/partner and children under 21) or up to 2 companion guests for an entry fee of $100 per person.

Can you pay to enter the Delta One Lounge?

There is no paid entry to the Delta One Lounge and no paid membership.

Can you access the Delta One Lounge on arrival?

If you are traveling on Delta One or are a Delta 360 member flying first class, you can access the Delta One Lounge on departure or arrival. Partner airline passengers do not have access on arrival.

Final Thoughts

Just a few months after opening its first Delta One Lounge in New York JFK, Delta is opening a second lounge in Los Angeles this week. This gorgeous new lounge should be a step up from an already excellent Delta Club lounge in LAX, hopefully elevating the ground experience for Delta One passengers and alleviating some of the crowding that has plagued the Delta SkyClubs.
