Etihad Airways and Vietnam Airlines have announced a new loyalty partnership between their respective programs. The partnership took effect on July 1, 2025, and from that date on, members can earn and redeem points on one airline through the other’s loyalty program.

Here's what to know about this new partnership.

Etihad Guest redemptions on Vietnam Airlines are now live. That means if you search a route operated by Vietnam Airlines, you can likely book it using Etihad Guest miles.

However, Etihad has not yet published an official redemption chart for Vietnam Airlines flights. That will likely be released soon, but in the meantime, we are seeing plenty of domestic Vietnam routes starting at around 6,000 miles, as shown in the screenshot below.

Longer routes should become available as well, but at the time of writing, you cannot search for Etihad Guest awards between San Francisco (SFO) and Ho Chi Minh City (SGN), which is the only current Vietnam Airlines route between Vietnam and the United States.

What The Partnership Does Not Cover

It’s important to note that this partnership is limited to earning and redeeming miles. There are no reciprocal elite benefits when flying on the other airline’s metal.

That means everything from lounge access and priority boarding to extra baggage and priority check-in is excluded. So, Vietnam Airlines elites hoping to access Etihad’s impressive global lounge network are out of luck.

Our Take

This is a logical move for both airlines. Etihad has been steadily building a strong network of partnerships across multiple alliances. It already partners with KLM, Air France, Garuda, Saudia, Air Europa, SAS, and China Eastern. Adding Vietnam Airlines is another step toward creating its own de facto SkyTeam-style alliance.

For Etihad Guest members, the ability to earn miles on Vietnam Airlines flights is a welcome addition that further enhances the program.

For members of other SkyTeam programs, this partnership may not offer much value. You’d typically be better off crediting your flights to Delta SkyMiles or Flying Blue. However, if you're looking to build an Etihad Guest balance for a specific redemption, crediting Vietnam Airlines flights to the program is a smart idea!
