It's been a busy year for Citi. The issuer sunset cards like the Citi Rewards+® Card, launched a new premium card with the Citi Strata Elite℠ Card (Rates & Fees), and became the only credit card rewards program option for transferring points to American Airlines AAdvantage. On top of all of that, in 2026, Citi will be the sole issuer of co-branded American Airlines credit cards. But with so much good news, it was about time to hear some bad news.
In short, Citi ThankYou® is losing Aeromexico Rewards as a transfer partner. Here's what we know so far, and what you can do before the change takes effect.
Citi ThankYou Points Ending Point Transfers to Aeromexico Rewards
Citi ThankYou Points is losing Aeromexico Rewards as a transfer partner on January 25, 2026. That gives you a few more weeks to make any last-minute transfers. Luckily, this wasn't a very popular transfer partner. It's notoriously difficult to maximize sweet spots of the Aeromexico program, and the clunky interface in which you book award redemptions doesn't help.

At the time of writing, cardholders of Citi credit cards had not been notified directly of this change. However, as you'll notice in the screenshot above, the Citi transfer partners website has been updated with the following:
“Important update: Aeromexico will no longer be a Points Transfer option effective January 25, 2026. This change will not affect prior Aeromexico Points Transfer transactions.”
When this change takes place, American Express Membership Rewards and Capital One Miles will be the only credit card transferable point currencies that transfer to Aeromexico — on top of several flavors of hotel points.

Bottom Line
While it's always sad news to hear you have fewer ways to use your points, the loss of Aeromexico as a Citi ThankYou transfer partner doesn't sting too much. It's challenging to find a high-value Aeromexico award redemption, and it can be even more challenging to actually book Aeromexico awards.
But if you know how to find value in the Aeromexico Rewards program, Amex Membership Rewards is going to be the program to focus on. Membership Rewards points transfer at a better 1:1.6 transfer ratio, and it doesn't appear that there are any plans for Amex to lose Aeromexico as a transfer partner.
