Rove Miles Launches Transfers to Japan Airlines

There are already several fantastic ways to redeem Rove Miles. In addition to transfers to more than a dozen airline and hotel partners or offsetting the cost of paid travel, you can now transfer them to Japan Airlines Mileage Bank.

This new partnership with Japan Airlines is officially live. And effective immediately, you can transfer Rove Miles to JAL at a 1:1 ratio in increments of 100, starting at 2,000 miles.

This partnership is a big deal if traveling to Japan on points and miles is on your radar. JAL Mileage Bank has some incredible sweet spots and award availability that's second to none — especially in its most premium cabins. That includes JAL First Class, as well as business class on the Airbus A350-1000 and Boeing 777-300ER.

Beyond flights operated by Japan Airlines, this partnership is also lucrative because JAL Mileage Bank miles can be redeemed for other flights on other Oneworld carriers, including American Airlines and Qatar Airways. You can also use miles for select non-alliance partners such as Emirates and LATAM, often for great value.

JAL restricts redemptions for new accounts

Do note that Japan Airlines imposes a seemingly loosely enforced restriction on new accounts before allowing redemptions. Officially, new accounts can’t redeem miles for 60 days. However, data points across the internet suggest this restriction may disappear or drop to just seven days if you transfer a partner currency into JAL.

In other words, if you don’t already have a JAL account, you should create one immediately. And if you plan to use miles in the near term, consider first transferring in a partner currency, such as from Bilt Rewards or Capital One, and then moving your Rove Miles to JAL once your account is eligible to redeem and you've scoped out award availability.
