How to avoid: Before trips, shift sleep and meals 30 to 60 minutes a day toward destination if possible and prioritize 8 to 9 hours of sleep. After arrival, immediately align your sleep, meals and training to local time, spend time outdoors exposing to natural light (morning if traveling eastward and evening if westward) to reset your body clock, and allow about 1 day per time zone to reach peak performance.

Hydration

Impact: Air travel includes changes in temperatures and altitude, which tend to aid dehydration. A 2 to 3% drop in hydration leads to measurable declines in endurance, strength, and cognition.

How to avoid: Consuming 15 to 20 milliliters of fluids per hour is recommended to stay properly hydrated. Move regularly to reduce fatigue.
