Update: The booking window for this promotion has closed. Eligible travel must be completed by March 24, 2026.

If you're itching to fly to (or from) Europe, we have some excellent news for you. Iberia just launched an incredible 40% off award promotion for flights through March 24, 2026. You can use this promotion to fly to Europe for as few as 9,600 Avios in basic economy.

Although this sale runs through January 26, 2026, you'll want to act fast to confirm availability. Here's everything you need to know about Iberia's Avios award sale.

Fly to or From Europe for as Little as 9,600 Iberia Avios

With Iberia's newest award travel promotion, you can fly throughout most of its network for up to 40% off through the end of March 2026. And since Iberia uses a distance-based award chart, you can reasonably anticipate how many Avios you'll need to spend for the route you have in mind. Thankfully, much of the eligible travel period for this promotion is during off-peak dates.

Even after Iberia's award chart devaluation last year, you can find some excellent deals through this promotion.

To get some inspiration on where you can go, check out Iberia's route map. Iberia flies to 10 U.S. airports from its hubs in Madrid and Barcelona:

  • Madrid (MAD) to Boston (BOS), New York (JFK, EWR), Washington, DC (IAD), Chicago (ORD), Orlando (MCO), Miami (MIA), Dallas (DFW), Los Angeles (LAX), and San Francisco (SFO)
  • Barcelona (BCN) to Boston (BOS), New York (JFK), Miami (MIA), Los Angeles (LAX), and San Francisco (SFO)

Iberia published a list of routes on sale. Every U.S. city is included on the list except San Francisco — and that's probably only because it's a seasonal route. If you live in San Francisco and want to take advantage of the sale, you might consider taking a positioning flight to Los Angeles.

During previous award sales, Iberia would publish information regarding which routes received which tier of discount. However, for this award sale, Iberia is only giving a blanket list of cities on sale, and states that these cities are “up to” 40% off. So, your specific discount may vary. This sale is also different in that it is only valid on flights to/from Madrid.

Here are the cities on sale, split into different regions:

  • Spain:
    • A Coruña, Alicante, Almería, Asturias, Bilbao, Granada, Jerez, Pamplona, San Sebastián, Santander, Santiago de Compostela, Valencia, Vigo
  • Europe:
    • Athens, Bologna, Brussels, Budapest, Bordeaux, Dubrovnik, Düsseldorf, Florence, Frankfurt, Funchal, Geneva, Hamburg, Innsbruck, Lisbon, London, Lyon, Marseille, Milan, Munich, Nantes, Nice, Oslo, Porto, Paris, Prague, Rome, Rovaniemi, Stockholm, Toulouse, Tromsø, Turin, Venice, Vienna, Zurich
  • Africa:
    • Algiers, Casablanca, Dakar, Tangier
  • Americas:
    • Bogotá, Boston, Buenos Aires, Chicago, Mexico City, Dallas, Fortaleza, Guayaquil, Havana, Lima, Los Angeles, Miami, Montevideo, Monterrey, New York, Orlando, Quito, Recife, Rio de Janeiro, San José, San Juan, Santiago de Chile, São Paulo, Santo Domingo, Washington
  • Asia:
    • Doha

Key Terms

  • Promotion is valid on bookings from through January 26, 2026.
  • Promotion travel window is from January 19 to March 24, 2026.
  • Awards can be booked one-way or round-trip.
  • Taxes and fees are excluded from the promotion.
  • The offer will not apply to Vueling or Level flights.

How to Book an Award Flight Through Iberia

To take advantage of this promotion, you'll want to visit Iberia's website, log in to your account, and enter your flight details. Iberia's website is notoriously finicky, so be patient if you don't see any availability — you might just need to change your dates. The discount will automatically be reflected in the advertised fare, so you don't need to do anything special to book a sale award.

As we already mentioned, Iberia uses a distance-based award chart, with prices for peak and off-peak dates. After the up to 40% discount, and booking during off-peak dates, routes under 4,000 miles will cost just 9,600 Avios in economy. There are three routes between the U.S. and Madrid that fall in this 4,000-mile distance band:

  • Boston (BOS) — Madrid (MAD)
  • New York (JFK) — Madrid (MAD)
  • Washington DC (IAD) — Madrid (MAD)

Routes between 4,001 and 5,500 miles one-way will cost a slightly higher 12,000 Avios in economy. There are another five routes between the U.S. and Spain that fall in this distance band:

  • Chicago (ORD) — Madrid (MAD)
  • Dallas (DFW) — Madrid (MAD)
  • Miami (MIA) — Madrid (MAD)
  • Orlando (MCO) — Madrid (MAD)

If you want to take a last-minute European vacation, there's wide open availability for flights to Spain. You can fly from Boston (BOS) to Madrid (MAD) any time through March for just 19,200 Avios round-trip.

You also don't need to stick around Madrid. Iberia flies all throughout Europe, so you can score some exceptional award flights in economy or business class. For instance, a one-way domestic flight from Madrid (MAD) to Valencia (VLC) will cost as little as 2,100 Avios in economy or 5,850 Avios in business.

Or, you can head to Eastern Europe and explore Budapest for 5,700 Avios in economy or 13,200 Avios in business.

The options are really limitless, so you can get creative for your European getaway.

Final Thoughts

Simply put, this is an excellent deal for award travel to Europe. Iberia already offers great award pricing on off-peak award flights between the U.S. and Europe. After taking 40% off these rates, these award prices are truly exceptional. It's not often you can fly on a trans-Atlantic flight for just a few thousand miles.

You'll want to act fast — although you can technically book your flight until January 26, 2026, you should book as soon as possible to lock in availability. Note that the sale is valid for flights through March 24, 2026, so you can get a jump on planning your spring travel.

Why are all the comments from 2020?

Rather than having a dozen individual posts on a topic, we have just one that we update with the latest offering.

Also, back in 2020, we rewarded 5 AAdvantage miles per comment (before we were shut down from doing so). So, our comment section was very popular back then!

Believe there’s a minor grammatical error in added update. Wouldn’t otherwise mention, but it is now the first line, in bold, folks read. Probably should be “made by” instead of “made until.”

good promo but again its in the “i wish….” category for most of us. I suppose as soon as the COVID restrictions go away, so will these promos.

Are any of these Level flights? I thought Iberia long-haul into BCN was mostly Level.

I remember the last time Iberia had that promotion, AMEX had a transfer bonus to BA, which can be transfer to Iberia, so rates were even lower.

This is so cheap promo from US to Europe. But not want to go out during this period. Walk around should be fine.

It seems to me that IB has much a harder time to fill its seats than BA.

I don’t like Avios FFP. Expensive YQ fee for us. or your account will be closed if they think it’s not normal without any notice. You have to call BA customer and talk many times. The AA was much more better than that.

Great deal, shame we cant travel at the moment!

Amazing promo I’m looking at booking especially to use my Iberia Credit that expires 12/31!

This is a great deal! Hopefully, we’re able to visit Europe by then.

Interesting offer., for those who collect avios. The fact is that as the post remind us due to Covid 19 there are many restrictions between those countries , NYC is asking for quarantine and Madrid too plus is for winter period . But tempting . Thanks for posting

    Steven William Van Meter says:

Probable when the election is over we can start travelling again and take advantage of this. I like what i’m seeing. We just need to hold on another month or so.

I have seen a lot of promos for less dollars and less miles to fly here and there and it’s at first a happy feeling and then I remember covid.
With all the requirements it’s just too much to try and fly to Europe. I am hoping that next summer there will be something to make it easier to travel to Europe. I am hoping to see my in laws without all the fanfare.

8500 avios not bad, but then i will have to sell my kidneys to pay for their pathetic fuel surcharges.

( When will they go out of business? such poorly managed airline)

    Michael R Karpiel says:

JT the promotion period is Sept 1 to Mar 15. In the Key terms you have Sep 1 to Mar 31 which is incorrect.

Very difficult to predict if we would be able to travel in March 21! The deal is amazing but the situation is so unpredictable I highly doubt anybody would take advantage of this.

I really want to travel, especially when promotions like these appear. Hopefully the pandemic ends and we can travel soon.

OOOH. Wish I could use AA miles here — but I’ve got no Avios or transferrable points to get into Avios 🙁

Looks like a good deal for those that can book with flexible travel dates.

The actual question now is whether the borders are “flexible.” I do not want to talk about the things that some governments that have recently gone rouge are doing on its borders nowadays.

Do these award bookings come with high fuel surcharges??

    Juan Ignacio says:

Iberia’s C class is an excellent product, also Iberia always has excellents deals to buy Avios.

You hit the nail on the head with the elephant in the room. Just so much we don’t know that it’s hard to get excited about good deals sometimes.
