Walmart+ offers several perks for members, including free Paramount+ or Peacock, grocery delivery perks, and so much more for just $98 annually. The most underrated perk, however, is likely the Walmart+ gas discount.
Here's a quick guide to finding participating gas stations and how to claim your discount and other Walmart+ benefits — all of which you can access as a complimentary perk if you have the American Express Platinum Card® and complete enrollment.

What Is Walmart+?
Walmart+ is Walmart's membership program. Similar to Amazon Prime, Walmart+ offers plenty of benefits. Members can get free grocery delivery, a free subscription to a streaming service (with ads), discounts on gas, discounts through Walmart+ Travel, free online pet care with Pawp, and more.
The Walmart+ membership costs $12.95 monthly or $98 annually, plus tax. You can also get a monthly statement credit for a Walmart+ membership with the Platinum Card®. Enrollment is required for select Amex benefits.
You don't have to live near a Walmart or even be a regular Walmart shopper to benefit from Walmart+ benefits. Some benefits won't apply to you, but you can still get value from your membership through the free streaming service and gas discounts.
Walmart+ benefits

Walmart+ vs. Amazon Prime
As you can see, Walmart+ has several similar benefits to Amazon Prime. With Prime, you get free next-day or two-day shipping with no minimum spend, two-hour delivery with Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods, Prime Video, etc.
Amazon Prime offers a 10¢ per gallon discount on gas at participating BP, Amoco, and ampm stations. Plus, members get 2% cash back on gas purchases with the Prime Visa. However, keep in mind that a Prime membership is more expensive than Walmart+.
Depending on whether you have a Walmart store near you — or you value specific Walmart+ benefits such as the Paramount+ Essential Plan or Peacock Premium subscription — you might want to get both memberships. These streaming subscription plans require a separate registration.
Up to $12.95 Walmart+ Membership Statement Credit with the Platinum Card®
A Walmart+ monthly membership costs $12.95 plus tax. Alternatively, the annual plan costs $98 plus tax. Qualifying government aid recipients of SNAP, WIC, Medicaid, and more can get a Walmart+ Assist membership for 50% off ($6.47 monthly or $49 annually). Furthermore, you can add Walmart+ InHome delivery for $7 per month or $40 per year and have any order of $35 or more delivered to your chosen delivery point in your house.
If you're uncertain about getting a Walmart+ membership, you can always get a free 30-day trial membership. On the other hand, you can get up to a $12.95 statement credit back each month after you pay for a monthly Walmart+ membership with the Platinum Card®.
Those with the Platinum Card® can claim a free Walmart+ membership (note that Plus Ups are excluded). A statement credit of $12.95 plus applicable taxes will apply to any month a member charges the Walmart+ membership to their card. You can enroll for this benefit here.
This benefit is only valid on Walmart+ monthly plans, not annual plans. If you already have an annual Walmart+ membership, simply switch to the monthly membership before your annual renewal date to receive the credit on your monthly statement.
Furthermore, you can only have one Walmart+ statement credit per account. If additional account cardholders pay for a monthly Walmart+ subscription, only the basic cardholder receives the statement credit.

Walmart+ Gas Discount at Walmart, Exxon, Mobil, Sam's Club, and Murphy Fuel Stations
One of the better benefits is the Walmart+ gas discount. Walmart+ members get a gas discount at the following stations:

- Participating Exxon and Mobil gas stations: Discount of 10 cents per gallon (5¢ in AL & OK)
- Walmart and Murphy gas stations: Discount of 5 to 10 cents per gallon, depending on local laws
- Sam's Club fuel centers: Access to member pricing
Exxon and Mobil have over 11,000 gas stations across the U.S.; Sam's Club has nearly 600; Murphy has over 1,700; and Walmart has nearly 500. This brings the total number to over 14,000 fuel stations where Walmart+ members can get a gas discount. You will need the Walmart+ app to get your gas discounts.

How to get a fuel discount with your Walmart+ membership
Each gas station brand has a different way to get the Walmart+ gas discount.
Walmart and Sam's Club fuel stations
- From the Walmart+ app, select Services at the bottom of the page
- Select Member prices on fuel
- Select “Pay at Pump”
- Scan the QR code on the pump screen
- Select your payment method in Walmart Pay
- Select your fuel grade
- Start pumping
Pay In Store Walmart fuel stations
- From the Walmart+ app, select Member prices on fuel
- Select “Pay Inside”
- If not in store mode, select Pay with cash instead
- Let the associate scan your barcode
- Pay for your fuel
- Pump your gas
Murphy USA fuel stations
- The Walmart+ member will enter a 6-digit discount ID from their app at the pump instead of using Walmart Pay to scan a QR code
- From the Walmart+ app, select Services at the bottom of the screen
- Select Member Prices on Fuel
- Find “At a Murphy Station? Use discount ID” at the bottom of the screen
- From the Murphy pump, select Walmart+
- Enter the discount ID from the app using the keypad at the pump
- Select grade and begin fueling
- See a fuel station attendant for a receipt, as you will not get a digital receipt. See the savings and view the receipt.
Pay inside a Murphy USA fuel station
- From the Walmart+ app, select Services at the bottom of the screen.
- Select Member Prices on Fuel
- Find “At a Murphy Station? Use discount ID” at the bottom of the screen
- Give the cashier the discount ID from your Walmart app
- Let them know your pump number and how much fuel you want
Exxon and Mobil fuel stations
- From the Walmart+ app, select Services at the bottom of the screen
- Select “Member Prices on Fuel”
- Scan the QR code at the pump if the app has not detected which station you are at
- Select “Fuel up for less” on the pop-up window
- Enter your fuel pump number
- Select a payment method
- Select grade and begin fueling
- You’ll get a printed receipt when finished. You won’t get a digital receipt, but you’ll see savings in your purchase history.
Leverage Your Platinum Card® to Get Discounted Gas at Exxon and Mobil Stations
Using your Platinum Card® to get a Walmart+ statement credit is quite the deal. The Walmart+ gas discount could save you around $75 a year in gas. That's on top of saving $8.99 monthly on a Paramount+ Essential Plan or $10.99 on a Peacock Premium Plan and other benefits. This comes at no extra cost if you have the Platinum Card®.

Here's the kicker: You don't have to pay with the same credit card you use to pay for your monthly Walmart+ membership. That means you could pay with one of the best credit cards for gas instead, adding extra earnings to the equation.
Our Take
This is a solid deal for Platinum Card® holders to get a Walmart+ membership and save on gas. Even if you don't have the Platinum Card®, at least you can pay for the Walmart+ membership and get discounted gas. It's quite a benefit to have over 14,000 gas stations at which you can buy discounted fuel.
