Every now and then, American Airlines launches a promotion that lets AAdvantage members earn bonus miles. Right now, American Airlines AAdvantage® members can earn 20,000 bonus miles per line by switching their cell phone service to AT&T.
Here’s what you need to know about this latest American Airlines AT&T offer.
Earn 20,000 AAdvantage Miles per Line by Switching to AT&T Wireless
How does 20,000 bonus AAdvantage miles sound? Well, that's what you can score by switching an eligible wireless line to AT&T. However, it's not as simple as buying a SIM card. Here's what you'll need to do to qualify:
- Switch your wireless line and phone number from an eligible carrier to AT&T.
- Activate a smartphone on an AT&T postpaid voice and data plan. You can either buy a new phone through AT&T or bring your own compatible, unlocked device.
- Complete the AT&T redemption form using your AAdvantage number within 14 days of activating your new line.
- Keep your AT&T service active and in good standing for at least 60 days from activation.
While this might feel like this is a random promotion, remember that AT&T provides AAdvantage members with access to American Airlines' free high-speed in-flight Wi-Fi on 90% of the airline's fleet.

The process is relatively straightforward. If you were already considering switching from Verizon or another eligible carrier to AT&T, this might be the push you need to make it happen. AwardWallet users redeem AAdvantage miles for 2.56¢ apiece on average, making the 20,000 bonus miles worth ~$500 based on recent redemptions.
There isn't an advertised end date. However, American Airlines notes that the promotion may change or end at any time without notice.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 offer
AT&T is also advertising the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 for $0 after 36 monthly bill credits with an eligible trade-in valued at $290 or more, a 36-month installment plan, and the AT&T Premium 2.0 plan or higher — which starts at $100 per month before discounts.
You don't need to take advantage of this phone offer to earn the AAdvantage miles; bringing your own eligible device also qualifies.
Key terms
Here are the most important restrictions to keep in mind:
Who qualifies
- The offer is available to legal residents of the 50 United States and Washington, D.C.
- You must transfer your number from an eligible third-party carrier. Transfers from Cricket and AT&T PREPAID are excluded, as are port-ins using temporary numbers.

Activating service and receiving your miles
- A $35 activation fee applies per line, along with applicable taxes and other charges.
- Submit the AT&T redemption form within 14 days of activating your line, then maintain qualifying service for at least 60 days.
- Your AAdvantage account must remain open and in good standing until the miles are issued. Allow eight to 10 weeks after completing the 60-day qualification period for the miles to post.
Limits on the bonus
- You can earn 20,000 bonus miles per eligible line, with one AAdvantage account number receiving the bonus for each line.
- Each additional switched line requires a separate redemption form and a unique AAdvantage account number.
- Each line can receive this switching bonus once every 12 consecutive months.
- Bonus miles don't count toward AAdvantage elite status qualification or Million Miler™ status.

Final Thoughts
Switching wireless providers is a bigger commitment than most mileage promotions. But if you were already planning to move an eligible line to AT&T, earning 20,000 bonus AAdvantage miles is a solid extra. Just make sure to submit your redemption form within 14 days of activating your line and keep your service active for at least 60 days.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 offer could add even more value, but only if the eligible trade-in, qualifying plan, and 36-month bill-credit structure work for you.
