Although Alaska recently joined the Oneworld Alliance, it still maintains an eclectic mix of non-alliance partners. One of the smallest of Alaska Airlines' airline partners is Ravn Alaska — an intra-Alaska airline with just over a dozen routes. In April 2022, Alaska Airlines added Ravn Alaska as a Mileage Plan partner for earning and redeeming miles.
However, one aspect missing from this partnership was earning Alaska elite status credits on Ravn Alaska flights. Now this Alaska-focused partnership is adding this too.
Starting December 1, 2023, Alaska Mileage Plan members will earn Elite Qualifying Miles (EQM) on Ravn Alaska flights. This addition was quietly added to the terms of the Mileage Plan partnership page for Ravn Alaska earlier this week:
“Starting December 1, 2023, qualifying Ravn Alaska flights will be eligible to earn Elite Qualifying Miles.”
How You Earn Alaska Mileage Plan Miles on Ravn Alaska
As with its other airline partners, Alaska Mileage Plan uses a distance-based earning chart for flights on Ravn Alaska. But, unlike other airlines, there's just one tier to this chart. Seemingly, every Ravn Alaska fare class (Y, A, S, B, M, H, Q, L, K, G, T, V) earns Alaska miles at a rate of 100% of flight miles:
A 100% earning rate would be a pretty appealing earning rate for many airline partners. For reference, discount American Airlines fares (fare classes O, Q, and B) only earn Alaska miles at a rate of 25% of the flight miles.
However, Ravn Alaska is much different than Alaska's other partners. You aren't going to fly long-haul routes on Ravn Alaska. In fact, only Ravn Alaska flights within the state of Alaska are eligible to earn Alaska miles:
“Ravn Alaska flights that are within the state of Alaska and within the flight number range (7H) 1–999 or 7000–7999”
That means you won't earn Alaska miles on Ravn Alaska-operated “Northern Pacific” routes currently being tested within the contiguous United States.
The longest intra-Alaska Ravn Alaska route we can find is between Anchorage (ANC) and Unalaska (DUT) — measuring in at just under 800 miles. With the 100% earning rate, you'll only earn around 800 Alaska Mileage Plan miles on a one-way flight. And starting December 1, 2023, you'll also earn around 800 Elite Qualifying Miles on this flight.
Bottom Line
Chalk this development up as a pretty minor one. But for aspiring Alaska Mileage Plan elites, Elite Qualifying Mileage earnings on Ravn Alaska give travelers a little more incentive to explore the state of Alaska.
