Every once in a blue moon, airlines try to do nice things for their customers. It isn't often as they most likely don't want customers to get used to it and have expectations. But, when it does happen, it always makes you feel a little warm and tingly inside.

American Airlines is currently doing its nice thing and sending out targeted offers to some AAdvantage members. And it's a pretty good one!

Normally, the ability to reach elite status with an airline is out of reach for most. It's great to see American Airlines giving people the opportunity to try out free elite status and lowering the threshold to make it more achievable for the average traveler.

  • This seems to be quite an interesting offer. It is a pity that I haven’t been targeted for it as I might have given it consideration. The problem for me though would be maintaining the status in the longer term.

  • leonardo says:

vamos a verificar nuestro status ya que poseemos muchas millas por american , aunque dejamos de viajar por la pandemia aun tenemos un viaje pendiente a Paris que no sabemos todavia cuando vamos a poder ir. Gracias por la info

  • I haven’t received anything.
Moreover, it’s not clear if the offer is targeted only to US residents.

  • Joan Rodden says:

    Nothing for me, either.
I wonder what percentage of customers actually receive this offer? It certainly stoked interest and had us checking our accounts!

  • There is no promotion for me this time .

  • Not I, although I’d have been very surprised if I did! Was worth checking though!

  • rotemburo says:

Checked the promotions’ page. Did not get targeted for this one [yet?] but got selected for another promotion: Buy 5’000 EQMs for $495.00.

  • Alejandra says:

    Me parecen espectaculares estas promociones,
Pero no cumplo con los requisitos . Compartiré la información con mis contactos

  • No dice 🙁

  • Why am I never targeted for these things?

  • Fenspinbi says:

I got targeted for Platinum status, which was a nice surprise. I joined AAdvantage when I was a teenager, and have been in the program for decades. However, I picked up two of the Citi AAdvantage cards this spring (MileUp® & Platinum Select®), and already booked four flights this year so far, three of which fall into the elite status window (early Sept). I’ve also been participating in the program regularly through Awardwallet comments and every recent promotion, so they probably figured (correctly), that I would take AAdvantage of this offer too.

Just sharing what I was doing which may have put me on the radar for Platinum elite status…I definitely do not fly enough on cash fares to earn elite status organically, and my current (engineering) role doesn’t currently involve much travel.

  • I got free Platinum, will have to see if I have any trips coming up that will make use of this, AA does not often fly near me.

  • I’m Executive Platinum already so I was pretty sure I wasn’t targeted. I did check though — a few years ago while I was a Platinum, I got an offer for Concierege Key status! The amount of flying I had to do and money I had to spend was Ridiculous — Something like 15000 dollars in the next two months. I thought it was probably a mistake and when I checked the app again the next day, it was gone.

  • Juan Manuel Villa says:

I check the link but there is no promotion for me…

  • Thank’s for the information!!

  • cmg_71@prodigy.net.mx says:

Good opportunity to enjoy these AA high levels, hope I can be eligible.

  • linda teresa laura says:

Cómo elige AAdvantage a los asociados que va a beneficiar?

  • Wasn’t targeted. It will be interesting though to see how airlines come out of Covid, and how they try to gain business back. They have to be careful not to devalue the overall product with oversaturation.
