In the spirit of giving back this holiday season, Amex quietly added a last-minute positive benefit to The Business Platinum Card® from American Express. After enrolling, card members will get up to $200 in yearly credits for eligible purchases at Hilton properties. Let's dig into all the details!
Evolution of the Amex Business Platinum Card
In recent years, Amex has moved to a “coupon book” style of rewarding card members — delivering credits that must be used monthly, quarterly, half-yearly, or yearly that you need to use to get value from the card. Amex has arguably led the way on this evolution with the Business Platinum Card. Read our full Business Platinum Card review for the rundown on this card.
It's a lot to keep up with admittedly, but if you're able to stay organized, it can deliver real returns on your substantial annual fee (Rates & Fees). Many of these benefits were set to end at the end of 2024 but were recently extended into 2025. Enrollment is required for select Amex benefits.
Now, card members are getting a surprise new addition to the long list of Business Platinum Card benefits.
Amex Adds $200 Hilton Credit to Amex Business Platinum Card
The new benefit is structured similarly to the Hilton Honors American Express Surpass® Card in that you'll receive a $50 credit to use at any Hilton property worldwide once per quarter. In total, that adds up to $200 per year. Just note, the credit is “use it or lose it,” so if you miss a quarter, you're out of luck.
How to enroll in this new benefit
Like so many Amex benefits, this new Hilton credit requires enrollment. Since I have the The Business Platinum Card® from American Express, I was able to enroll this morning. If you have the card, you should find the tile for the new benefit under the “Benefits” tab in your Amex account.
Clicking through, I was able to enter my Hilton number to activate the benefit. This will also automatically enroll your account in the Hilton for Business program.
Shortly after inputting my information, I received an email confirming my enrollment in the new benefit.
As I mentioned above, you'll also be enrolled in the Hilton for Business program (it's free). One benefit of the program: You'll receive 7,500 bonus points on your first use of the Hilton for Business rate for a stay. Based on recent AwardWallet user redemptions, that's valued around $43! You'll also receive a 5,000-point bonus for every 10 nights stayed using your Hilton for Business rate.
How this new Hilton credit works according to Amex (AKA the fine print)
As with most Amex benefits, this new Hilton credit has a long list of terms and conditions. Here's a recap:
- Basic Card Member must have a valid Hilton Honors account and must be registered in the Hilton for Business program to be eligible.
- If Card Members are not already registered in the Hilton for Business program, they will be registered in the Hilton for Business program when they enroll in this benefit.
- To successfully enroll in this benefit, your full name, email address, or phone number must match on both your American Express Card Account and Hilton Honors Account.
- Enrollment is not effective until the customer has received an email or letter from American Express confirming enrollment; any Hilton purchases prior to receipt of that confirmation will not qualify for the benefit.
- Card Members who are registered for the Hilton for Business program through the enrollment process will receive an email from Hilton welcoming them to the Hilton for Business program that includes program details and a link to complete their Hilton for Business account profile.
- Once enrolled, the Card Account can receive up to $200 in statement credits per calendar year (up to $50 quarterly) for eligible purchases charged directly with Hilton.
- After enrollment, employee card member purchases can trigger the statement credit. However, each account is only eligible for up to $50 in statement credits per quarter for a total of up to $200 per calendar year.
- Statement credits are typically received within a few days but may take up to 8-12 weeks after a booking has been paid.
Final Thoughts
In short, I'm thrilled with this news. Not only will it save me money on future Hilton stays, but I've found the credits can often be used when not staying at a Hilton property — such as for restaurant spending or even golf rates. Living in Scottsdale, Arizona, has many benefits, but one big one is our golf scene, and a few courses are attached to Hilton resorts that I've found trigger the credit on my other Hilton cards with similar benefits.
I'm never thrilled about tracking yet another quarterly credit. However, I am quite happy that Amex quietly added this new benefit before the end of 2024, meaning I have $50 to use before year-end.
