At the beginning of February 2023, Lufthansa launched its refreshed Miles & More app to help members book flights and collect Rewards miles. Lufthansa is invested in having members try out the app, so it's offering 500 bonus miles when members download the app and log in. Here's a little look into the app and how to claim 500 bonus miles.
Lufthansa's Miles & More App
The Miles & More App is your usual loyalty program app. The app offers a range of features:
- Set a target for collecting miles.
- Have easy access to your mileage balance and frequent flyer status.
- Opt-in for push notifications to get the latest deals.
- Receive monthly prizes with the App Quiz.
- Access a mileage calculator for flights and upgrades.
- Get miles credited for all flights retroactively.
- Always have access to your service card.
Lufthansa first launched its app in 2010, and since at least 2017 has offered members bonus miles to download and use the app. In 2023, the app was fully upgraded. As with many apps, there are still a few kinks to iron out. Hopefully, the above benefits will outweigh any difficulties that arise in the app.
Get 500 Bonus Miles With the Miles & More App
Miles & More members will earn 500 bonus miles for downloading the Miles & More App and logging in. No purchase is necessary for this one. You only need to download the app and log into your account. Then, you'll automatically earn 500 bonus miles.
Lufthansa's promotion is only open to members who have not previously downloaded the app. Presumably, Lufthansa is tracking who's already logged into the app in the past. So, you shouldn't be able to uninstall and reinstall the app for the bonus.
This promotion has had several expiration dates over the past seven years. Yet it's still running and doesn't have an end date now, so we can assume it's here to stay.
You can download the app from the App Store or Google Play. And after downloading the app, check your email to see if you receive any additional offers to earn miles through the app. The app states there are daily offers to earn miles and a personalized MyChallenge.
What are 500 Miles & More miles worth?
Based on recent AwardWallet user redemptions, Lufthansa miles have provided an average of 3.2¢ cents each (although just 1¢ for short-haul economy awards). If maximized, this promotion is essentially giving you $15 in miles just for downloading and logging into the app. Not a bad deal!
Our Take
It's not often that a promotion comes along that gives you free points or miles without any expenditure. Occasionally, you'll find a few new member bonuses that offer easy ways to earn miles (Spirit Airlines has a similar promotion), but most bonuses typically require a flight or a hotel stay to earn the points.
Even if you're not a member of Lufthansa Miles & More, this might be a good time to join and earn free bonus miles. Although you can buy Lufthansa miles, it's a currency that's typically difficult to earn so you might as well claim these free bonus miles. Just remember to take the necessary steps to keep your Miles & More miles from expiring.
