At the beginning of February 2023, Lufthansa launched its new Miles and More app to help members book flights and collect rewards miles. With that launch came a promotion for Miles & More members to pick up 500 bonus miles just for downloading and logging into the new app. Another promotion offers an additional 500 miles just for logging in again before May 31, 2023. Here's a little look into the app and how you can claim up to 1,000 bonus miles.
Lufthansa's Miles and More App
The Miles and More App is your usual loyalty program app. The app offers a range of features:
- Set a target for collecting miles.
- Have easy access to your mileage balance and frequent flyer status.
- Opt-in for push notifications to get the latest deals.
- Receive monthly prizes with the App Quiz.
- Access a mileage calculator for flights and upgrades.
- Get miles credited for all flights retroactively.
- Always have access to your service card.
Lufthansa is a bit late to the app party. As with many new apps, there are still a few kinks to iron out. Hopefully, the above benefits will outweigh any difficulties that arise in the app.
500 Bonus Miles with the Miles and More App
For a limited time, Miles & More members will earn 500 bonus miles for downloading the Miles and More App and logging in. No purchase is necessary for this one. All you need to do is download the app and log into your account. Then, you'll automatically earn 500 bonus miles.
This promotion is only open to members who have not previously downloaded the app. Unfortunately, your App Store or Google Play account tracks previous downloads. So, you can't just uninstall and reinstall the app.
At this time, there is no expiration date given for this promotion.

Based on recent AwardWallet user redemptions, Lufthansa miles have provided an average of 3.11¢ cents each (although just 0.97¢ for short-haul economy awards). If maximized, this promotion is essentially giving you $15 in miles just for downloading and logging into the app. Not a bad deal!
Log In to the App for 500 Bonus Miles
Some Miles & More members have received an email promoting a secondary promotion, so this could be a targeted promotion. Through May 31, 2023, members can earn an additional 500 bonus miles for a second time. This is after downloading the app and logging in initially for the first 500 bonus miles, bringing the total up to 1,000 bonus miles. The bonus points will credit to your account within four weeks of login.
Per the email:
You’ll automatically be credited 500 award miles when you download the app and log in for the first time. You’ll get a further 500 award miles if you log in to the app again by 31.5.2023. These will be credited to you within four weeks.
Check your email to see if you've received this offer, or perhaps another related promotion. The app states there are daily offers to earn miles and a personalized MyChallenge. So, this could be one of those offers.
Our Take
It's not often that a promotion comes along that gives you free points or miles without any expenditure. You'll find a few new member bonuses that give this, such as Spirit Airlines, but most bonuses typically require a flight or a hotel stay to earn the points.
Even if you're not a member of Lufthansa Miles and More, this might be a good time to join and earn free bonus miles. Just remember to take the necessary steps to keep your Miles and More miles from expiring.
