Lufthansa Miles & More miles expire 36 months after they were earned, and miles can't be extended through account activity. However, there are two options that will exempt you from the expiration policy. Here's the policy and the ways to be exempt from miles expiry.

Lufthansa has announced an award chart devaluation that will come into effect May 9, 2019. The changes are widespread and affect flights operated by Lufthansa and Star Alliance partners. Although this is bad news, most changes are moderate.

Lufthansa has added family pooling of miles, and several new features to its Miles & More loyalty program to celebrate its 25th birthday. Lufthansa has not confirmed the exact date that the new pooling will come into effect, although it has indicated that it will happen in May this year. The new program is tailored to families and allows the pooling of miles for two adults and up to five children. According to the Miles and More website, the pooling is only valid for award miles and not status miles.
